Integration of 1D, core/shell, and jagged features into one entity may provide a promising avenue for further enhancing catalyst performance. However, designing such unique nanostructures is extremely challenging. Herein, 1D serrated Au/Pd core/shell nanowires (CSNWs) with jagged edges were produced simply by a one-pot, dual-capping-agent-assisted method involving co-reduction, galvanic replacement, directional coalescence of preformed nanoparticles, and site-selective epitaxial growth of Pd. Au/PdCSNWs, compared with the commercially available Pd/C, exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic performance towards liquid fuel oxidation because of the synergistic effect of the electronic structure and low-coordinated jagged edges.

This study introduced a novel approach to 3D image segmentation utilizing a neural network framework applied to 2D depth map imagery, with Z axis values visualized through color gradation. This research involved comprehensive data collection from mechanically harvested wild blueberries to populate 3D and red-green-blue (RGB) images of filled totes through time-of-flight and RGB cameras, respectively. Advanced neural network models from the YOLOv8 and Detectron2 frameworks were assessed for their segmentation capabilities.

The development of efficient alcohol electrooxidation catalysts is of vital importance for the commercialization of direct liquid fuel cells. As emerging advanced catalysts, two-dimensional (2D) noble metal nanomaterials have attracted much research attention due to their intrinsic structural advantages. Herein, we report the synthesis of petal-like PdAg nanosheets (NSs) with an ultrathin 2D structure and jagged edges a facile wet-chemical approach, combining doping engineering and morphology tuning.

Based on the well-known role of peritumour characterization in cancer imaging to improve the early diagnosis and timeliness of clinical decisions, this study innovated a state-of-the-art approach for peritumour analysis, mainly relying on extending tumour segmentation by a predefined fixed size. We present a novel, adaptive method to investigate the zone of transition, bestriding tumour and peritumour, thought of as an annular-like shaped area, and detected by analysing gradient variations along tumour edges. For method validation, we applied it on two datasets (hepatocellular carcinoma and locally advanced rectal cancer) imaged by different modalities and exploited the zone of transition regions as well as the peritumour ones derived by adopting the literature approach for building predictive models.

Paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) has recently been described following episodes of migraine. In this report, we present a case of PAMM and describe the role of en face optical coherence tomography (OCT). A 75-year-old woman presented with subjective vision loss over a 2-week period in the right eye.
