Empirical evidence for the effectiveness of community treatment orders (CTOs) is at best mixed. We examine CTOs through the prism of human rights and discrimination, bearing the evidence in mind, and argue that a necessary condition for their use is that a person lacks decision-making capacity.

A five-year-old male presented with small bowel obstruction and a worm bolus on a plain abdominal radiograph. Peritonism and acidosis prompted laparotomy after a short period of resuscitation. At surgery a worm bolus had caused a small bowel volvulus with a segment of necrosis that was successfully managed by detorsion and resection.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of using melatonin and vitamin C as adjuncts to the non-surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis.
Materials And Methods: This triple-blind randomized clinical trial involved 100 participants with chronic periodontitis. Subjects were randomly assigned to three groups: (1) non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) alone (n = 33); (2) NSPT with melatonin (n = 33); and (3) NSPT with melatonin and vitamin C (n = 34).
