Understanding the pathways to text generation: A longitudinal study on executive functions, oral language, and transcription skills from kindergarten to first grade.

PLoS One

December 2024

Department of Developmental of Applied Psychology and Human Development, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canadá.

This longitudinal study explored the contribution of transcription skills, oral language abilities, and executive functions in kindergarten to written production in grade 1 among Spanish-speaking children (N = 191) through structural equation modeling (SEM). Three dimentions of written production were assessed, including productivity, quality, and syntactic complexity. Accordingly, three SEM models were tested to explore these relationships, and the estimated models for each endogenous variable demonstrated good fit.

Novel isothermal nucleic acid amplification method for detecting malaria parasites.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

December 2024

Laboratório de Pesquisa em Malária, Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC), Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Malaria, a parasitic disease caused by Plasmodium spp. and transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes, remains a major global health issue, with an estimated 249 million cases and 608,000 deaths in 2022. Rapid and accurate diagnosis and treatment are crucial for malaria control and elimination.

Visualization and Estimation of 0D to 1D Nanostructure Size by Photoluminescence.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology, Faculty of Physics, Vilnius University, Saulėtekio Ave. 3, 10257 Vilnius, Lithuania.

We elaborate a method for determining the 0D-1D nanostructure size by photoluminescence (PL) emission spectrum dependence on the nanostructure dimensions. As observed, the high number of diamond-like carbon nanocones shows a strongly blue-shifted PL spectrum compared to the bulk material, allowing for the calculation of their top dimensions of 2.0 nm.

Diversity and Distribution of Fungi in the Marine Sediments of Zhanjiang Bay, China.

J Fungi (Basel)

December 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Disease Control and Healthy Culture, College of Fisheries, Guangdong Ocean University, Zhanjiang 524088, China.

Fungi are one of the major components of the eukaryotic microbial community in marine ecosystems, playing a significant role in organic matter cycling and food web dynamics. However, the diversity and roles of fungi in marine sediments remain poorly documented. To elucidate the diversity and spatial distribution of fungal communities in the marine sediments of an estuary-coast continuum across three distinct salinity regions in Zhanjiang Bay, China, the variations in fungal diversity, abundance, community structure, and distribution in the sediments were investigated through the application of high-throughput amplicon sequencing using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) primers.
