Two-dimensional (2D) strain echocardiography has emerged as a novel method for early diagnosis of myocardial dysfunction in patients receiving anthracycline chemotherapy. Certain myocardial segments might be more vulnerable for development of dysfunction. Sixty-three patients with breast cancer who were deemed amenable for anthracycline chemotherapy were prospectively studied from March 2013 to March 2015 in University Hospital settings. Global left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF), fractional shortening and the strain over 17 segments of the LV were examined using 2-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) before and after chemotherapy. More than 15% reduction in longitudinal peak systolic strain (LPSS) was considered significant. The mean age of patients was 47 ± 10 years. LVEF was 59.7 ± 6.5% at baseline. Significant reduction of global LPSS was detected in 13% of patients. A significant LPSS reduction occurred in 32.4% of 1071 segments examined following chemotherapy. LPSS significantly decreased in 28% of apical segments, 31% of mid segments and 37% of basal segments. LPSS reduction occurred more frequently over the basal segments than all other segments ( = 0.031). Segmental pattern appears to exist in LPSS reduction following anthracycline therapy. As significant segmental decreases can be seen in the setting of unchanged global LPSS, segmental evaluation of LPSS might be a more accurate way for assessment of myocardial function.

In order to overcome the bioavailability limitation of polysaccharide (LPS) caused by its high molecular weight and complex structure, two low-molecular-weight degraded polysaccharides, namely G-LPS(8) and G-LPS(16), were prepared through enzymatic degradation. The molecular weight of LPS was significantly reduced by enzymolysis, leading to increased exposure of internal functional groups and altering the molar ratio of its constituent monosaccharides. The results of antioxidant experiments showed that enzymatic hydrolysis had the potential to enhance the antioxidant performance of LPS.

Background: Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) stands out as a critical health issue due to its high mortality and morbidity rates. This study aimed to comprehensively investigate the biochemical and metabolic alterations induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293) using an in vitro model.
Methods And Results: The study investigated the impact of LPS on HEK-293 cells by evaluating cytotoxicity using the MTT assay, analyzing apoptosis, cell cycle progression, and oxidative stress via flow cytometry, measuring TNF-α levels through ELISA, and assessing amino acid metabolism with LC-MS/MS.

Insects protect themselves through their immune systems. Entomopathogenic nematodes and their bacterial symbionts are widely used for the biocontrol of economically important pests. Ascarosides are pheromones that regulate nematode behaviors, such as aggregation, avoidance, mating, dispersal, and dauer recovery and formation.

Introduction: Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a condition characterized by elevated intracranial pressure. Although several mechanisms have been proposed as underlying causes of IIH, no identifiable causative factor has been determined for this condition. Initial treatments focus on weight or CSF reduction, but severe cases may require surgery.

The present study investigates the theoretical basis for maintaining normal physiological functions in heat-stressed beef cattle by exploring the effects of niacin supplementation on the permeability of the rumen epithelial cell barrier. Herein, 12 Jinjiang bulls with an average weight of approximately 400 ± 20.0 kg were randomly divided into three groups, thermoneutral (TN), heat-stressed (HS), and heat-stressed niacin-supplemented (HN) groups, with 4 bulls in each group.
