In three studies (total N = 622), the effects of threat to control on subsequent moral judgement were examined. After recalling a lack-of-control experience, participants evaluated the morality of a protagonist's decisions in a series of incongruent moral dilemmas. We found that a control-threatening reminder made moral judgements more utilitarian on the deontological-utilitarian dimension, which is consistent with the control motivation theory.

The impact of heteroresistance on tuberculosis (TB) treatment outcomes is unclear, as is the role of different rifampin and isoniazid exposures on developing resistance mutations. Hollow fiber system model of TB (HFS-TB) units were inoculated with drug-susceptible () and treated with isoniazid and rifampin exposure identified in a clinical trial as leading to treatment failure and acquired drug resistance. Systems were sampled for drug concentration measurements, estimation of total and drug-resistant , and small molecule overlapping reads (SMOR) analysis for the detection of heteroresistance.

Next-generation cancer phenomics by deployment of multiple molecular endophenotypes coupled with high-throughput analyses of gene expression offer veritable opportunities for triangulation of discovery findings in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) research. This study reports differentially expressed genes in NSCLC using publicly available datasets (GSE18842 and GSE229253), uncovering 130 common genes that may potentially represent crucial molecular signatures of NSCLC. Additionally, network analyses by GeneMANIA and STRING revealed significant coexpression and interaction patterns among these genes, with four notable hub genes-, , and -identified as pivotal in NSCLC progression.

Ecological Drivers of Evolution of Swine Influenza in the United States: A Review.

Emerg Microbes Infect

Center for Influenza and Emerging Diseases, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO 652011, USA.

Influenza A viruses (IAVs) pose a major public health threat due to their wide host range and pandemic potential. Pigs have been proposed as "mixing vessels" for avian, swine, and human IAVs, significantly contributing to influenza ecology. In the United States, IAVs are enzootic in commercial swine farming operations, with numerous genetic and antigenic IAV variants having emerged in the past two decades.

Macropinocytosis is a nonselective form of endocytosis that allows cancer cells to largely take up the extracellular fluid and its contents, including nutrients, growth factors, etc. We first elaborate meticulously on the process of macropinocytosis. Only by thoroughly understanding this entire process can we devise targeted strategies against it.
