Nodular skin lesions consisting of eosinophilic cell infiltrates developed in a 45-year-old man with metastatic islet cell amphicrine carcinoma of the pancreas. These infiltrates did not fit previously described eosinophilic skin conditions. Although the tumor responded to conventional chemotherapy, the skin lesions did not. They did, however, respond completely to radiation therapy. This clinical constellation has not been reported previously and may represent a new paraneoplastic syndrome.

Endocrine dysfunction and diabetes can develop secondary to fibrotic diseases within the pancreas including cystic fibrosis (CF). Phenotypic shift within epithelial cells has been recognised in association with pro-fibrotic signalling. We sought evidence of endocrine cell epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in CF and non-CF pancreas.

Background: Endogenous glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) regulate islet cell function. GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have been associated with an elevated risk of acute pancreatitis. Data on the pancreatic safety of tirzepatide (a dual GLP-1 and GIP agonist) and its effects on islet cell function in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are scarce.

Pancreatic development is a complex process vital for maintaining metabolic balance, requiring intricate interactions among different cell types and signaling pathways. Fibroblast growth factor receptors 2b (FGFR2b)-ligands signaling from adjacent mesenchymal cells is crucial in initiating pancreatic development and differentiating exocrine and endocrine cells through a paracrine mechanism. However, the precise critical time window that affects pancreatic development remains unclear.

The opioid crisis has emphasized identification of opioid-sparing analgesics. This study was designed as a prospective trial with retrospective control group to determine feasibility for implementing a high-dose prolonged magnesium sulfate infusion for adjuvant analgesia in the pediatric intensive care unit. Approval was granted for study of children receiving total pancreatectomy with islet cell autotransplantation and liver transplantation ages 3-18 years.

Amyloid aggregates are hallmarks of the pathology of a wide range of diseases, including type 2 diabetes (T2D) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Much epidemiological and pathological evidence points to significant overlap between AD and T2D. Individuals with T2D have a higher likelihood of developing AD; moreover, colocalized aggregates of amyloid β (Aβ) and the islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), the two main peptides implicated in the formation of toxic amyloid aggregates in AD and T2D, have also been identified in the brain.
