The title complex, [Ni(CHClNO)], with an asymmetrically chloride-appended Schiff base ligand has been synthesized and structurally characterized at 100 K. In the compound, the central nickel(II) ion has a square-planar coordination geometry with NO donors of the π-conjugated tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand. In the crystal, the complexes are connected into an inversion dimer an Ni⋯Ni inter-action [3.1753 (5) Å] and a pair of π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8416 (16) Å]. The dimers are linked a C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bond, forming a chain along the -axis direction. The dimer chains inter-act with each other through π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8736 (16) Å], forming a layer expanding parallel to the plane.

The specific fluorescent detection of α-methyltryptamine (AMT) presents a great challenge because similar amine groups and benzene rings exist in a variety of amines. Here, we show the precise modulation of the electron-withdrawing strength of the π-conjugate bridge in aldehyde-containing Schiff base-based fluorescent probes for ultratrace AMT discrimination. It is found that different electron-withdrawing groups -CH, -CHN, and -CHBr as the π-conjugate bridge of the 2-dicyanomethylidene-3-cyano-4,5,5-trimethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran (TCF)-based probes can classify and identify organic amines with different amine nucleophilicities.

Electrical performances of a biphenyl-derived amido Schiff base ligand L and its dinuclear Al(iii) complex (complex 1) were investigated in a metal-semiconductor (MS) junction. Electrical studies revealed that complex 1 significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity and improved the characteristics of a Schottky barrier diode (SBD). The - characteristics demonstrated that complexation of ligand L with Al(iii) ion increased the conductivity by two orders of magnitude (conductivity of L = 1.

This study aims to enhance the antimicrobial properties of chitosan through preparing novel chitosan Schiff bases via coupling with 4-formylphenyl 2,3-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoxaline-6-sulfonate (B5) where, different molar ratios of B5 were used to prepare various Schiff bases with chitosan, resulting in Schiff bases coded as d5, d6, d7, and d8, respectively. The modified chitosan samples (d5, d6, d7, and d8) showed reduced crystallinity and improved thermal stability. The crystallinity index of unmodified chitosan was 64 %, which decreased to 59, 55.

Schizophyllan (SPG) is a semi-flexible, triple-helical polysaccharide with attractive properties as an efficient viscosifying compound and biological response modifier. We report microrheological characterization of schizophyllan as dispersed in solution and the changes associated when crosslinked with chitosan over an extended frequency range using diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS). A SPG with high molecular weight (M = 1.

[CuL(tmen)] is a sequence of four ternary mononuclear Schiff base copper(II) complexes that are derived from L-valine, suitable 5'-substituted-2'-hydroxyacetophenones (where the substituents are -Cl for L, -Me for L, -OMe for L, and -H for L), and tmen (where tmen-N,N,N',N' tetramethyl ethylenediamine). Without isolating the Schiff base ligand or producing any other intermediate products, all of the complexes were synthesised. These compounds were identified using elemental analysis, molar conductance, UV-Vis, FTIR, EPR, VSM-RT, and CD spectra.
