Recent work on the role of the ACC in cognition has focused on choice difficulty, action value, risk avoidance, conflict resolution, and the value of exerting control among other factors. A main underlying question is what are the output signals of ACC, and relatedly, what is their effect on downstream cognitive processes? Here we propose a model of how ACC influences cognitive processing in other brain regions that choose actions. The model builds on the earlier Predicted Response Outcome model and suggests that ACC learns to represent specifically the states in which the potential costs or risks of an action are high, on both short and long timescales. It then uses those cost signals as a basis to bias decisions to minimize losses while maximizing gains. The model simulates both proactive and reactive control signals and accounts for a variety of empirical findings regarding value-based decision-making.

Background: Pancreatic enucleation is indicated for selected patients and tumours with very low oncological risk to preserve a maximum of healthy pancreatic parenchyma. Minimally invasive pancreatic enucleation (MIPE) is increasingly performed. This study aims to assess the impact of tumor location and center experience on textbook outcomes (TBO) in patients undergoing MIPE.

Background: While healthy dietary and lifestyle factors have been individually linked to lower colorectal cancer (CRC) risks, recommendations for whole diet-lifestyle patterns remained unestablished due to limited studies and inconsistent pattern definitions.
Objective: This updated review synthesized literature on dietary-lifestyle patterns and CRC risk/mortality.
Methods: PubMed and Embase were searched through 31 March 2023 for randomized controlled trials and prospective cohort studies examining adulthood dietary patterns combined with modifiable lifestyle factors such as adiposity, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and/or others.

Objective: Conduct disorder (CD) is associated with deficits in the use of punishment for reinforcement learning (RL) and subsequent decision-making, contributing to reckless, antisocial, and aggressive behaviors. Here, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine whether differences in behavioral learning rates derived from computational modeling, particularly for punishment, are reflected in aberrant neural responses in youths with CD compared to typically-developing controls (TDCs).
Methods: 75 youths with CD and 99 TDCs (9-18 years, 47% girls) performed a probabilistic RL task with punishment, reward, and neutral contingencies.

As surgeons, we strive to recognize and correct any mistakes that may occur before completing an operation, and importantly, do our best to avoid irreversible mistakes. Over-resection of the femoral cam lesion in patients having hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome has been considered irreversible. While cam under-resection is a technical complication of femoroacetabular impingement surgery to be avoided, avoiding this at the expense of over-resection of the proximal femur is of great concern.

Existing researches had primarily investigated the associations between various air pollutants and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) or diabetes mellitus (DM) separately. However, the significance and effects of PM and its components in patients with CHD and comorbid DM (CHD-DM) remain unclear. Patient data was sourced from the Beijing Municipal Health Commission Information Centre between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2018.
