We report nonconjugated monocyclic dienes (nCMDs) as unique photoswitchable molecules that hold promise for harvesting substantial solar energy and storing it for extended durations. Herein, cyclohepta-1,4-diene and its N-heterocyclic analogue have been considered as prototypical models for investigating photoswitching behavior in nCMDs. Initially, the nonradiative deactivation pathway of nCMD from the low-lying excited state to the [2 + 2]-cycloadduct has been evaluated.

Yeasts are a diverse group of unicellular fungi that have developed a wide array of phenotypes and traits over 400 million years of evolution. However, we still lack an understanding of the biological principles governing the range of cell morphologies, metabolic modes, and reproductive strategies yeasts display. In this study, we explored the relationship between cell morphology and metabolism in sixteen yeast strains across eleven species.

A process technology was developed for transferring strained graphene sheets using an elastomer nanosheet to enhance the resonance characteristics of a graphene resonator. The strain-induced graphene resonator demonstrated a 1.80-fold improvement in the product of resonant frequency and -factor compared to the unstrained resonator.

Introduction: Functional dependence on the performance of basic activities of daily living (ADLs) is associated with increased mortality. In this study, the Barthel index and its activities discriminate long-term mortality risk, and whether changes in this index are necessary to adapt it to detect mortality risk is examined.
Methods: Longitudinal study, carried out at the Orcasitas Health Center, Madrid (Spain), on the functional dependent population (Barthel ≤ 60).
