Among organ transplant recipients, cytomegalovirus (CMV) commonly results in various types of infection such as pneumonitis, hepatitis, and enterocolitis. However, CMV peritonitis is very rare and difficult to diagnose owing to lack of visible clinical signs. We present a case of a 35-year-old female kidney recipient who developed abdominal pain and urinary retention caused by CMV peritonitis. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of CMV peritonitis after organ transplantation to be diagnosed through histopathological examination.

Objective: To assess the associations between active CMV infection and patient-reported symptoms of cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) and peripheral neuropathy in ovarian cancer survivors.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among individuals with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer from academic and community cancer clinics at any time point after completion of front-line chemotherapy. Participants completed a one-time survey and provided a blood sample.
Although fungal infections causing intestinal perforation and necrosis are rare, they can be particularly dangerous in immunosuppressed patients, often leading to increased mortality rates and poor prognoses. Candida species are typically surface fungi, but in patients with compromised immune systems, they can invade the small intestine and cause angioinvasive infections. A case study involving a 30-year-old female with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) illustrates this phenomenon.

Background: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired disorder characterised by a low platelet count due to immune-mediated destruction and impaired platelet production. Here we report a rare case of primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection followed by thrombocytopenia after renal transplantation (RT).
Case Presentation: A 24-year-old male patient with end-stage kidney disease secondary to hereditary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was treated with peritoneal dialysis and received ABO-compatible living-related RT from his aunt.

Purpose: One of the most frequently reported effects of cancer and its treatments is cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI). Viral infections may affect inflammation and immune function and therefore may influence patient symptoms, including CRCI. The goal of this study was to describe the prevalence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections at diagnosis, during, and after chemotherapy in individuals with ovarian cancer and explore CMV infection at diagnosis with cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) following chemotherapy.

Introduction: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and body cavity fluids (pleural and peritoneal) have a useful role in the detection of infectious diseases, especially when combined with ancillary stains (Grocott methenamine silver, acid-fast bacilli, Fite, and cytomegalovirus). However, empirical ordering of stains and duplicate testing by concurrent microbiology cultures leads to unnecessary wastage of resources. The aim of our study was to optimize the use of resources.
