In this paper, a new smart voltage and current monitoring system (SVCMS) technique is proposed. It monitors a three phase electrical system using an Arduino platform as a microcontroller to read the voltage and current from sensors and then wirelessly send the measured data to monitor the results using a new Android application. The integrated SVCMS design uses an Arduino Nano V3.0 as the microcontroller to measure the results from three voltage and three current sensors and then send this data, after calculation, to the Android smartphone device of an end user using Bluetooth HC-05. The Arduino Nano V3.0 controller and Bluetooth HC-05 are a cheap microcontroller and wireless device, respectively. The new Android smartphone application that monitors the voltage and current measurements uses the open source MIT App Inventor 2 software. It allows for monitoring some elementary fundamental voltage power quality properties. An effort has been made to investigate what is possible using available off-the-shelf components and open source software.

Molecule-electrode interfaces play a pivotal role in defining the electron transport properties of molecular electronic devices. While extensive research has concentrated on optimizing molecule-electrode coupling (MEC) involving electrode materials and molecular anchoring groups, the role of the molecular backbone structure in modulating MEC is equally vital. Additionally, it is known that the incorporation of heteroatoms into the molecular backbone notably influences factors such as energy levels and conductive characteristics.

Developing nonprecious metal-based electrocatalysts with exceptional activity and durability for water electrolysis remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst composed of sulfur-doped vanadium metal-organic frameworks (S@V-MOF) integrated with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to promote the synergistic effect between S@V-MOF and MWCNTs and modulate the electronic structure of the catalyst, which eventually enhanced its electrocatalytic performance. The S@V-MOF/MWCNT catalyst loaded at the Ni foam electrode exhibits remarkable activity for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media, requiring overpotentials of 48 and 227 mV, respectively, to reach a current density of 10 mA cm.

Stable Field Emissions from Zirconium Carbide Nanoneedle Electron Source.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3255, USA.

In this study, a single zirconium carbide (ZrC) nanoneedle structure oriented in the <100> direction was fabricated by a dual-beam focused ion beam (FIB-SEM) system, and its field emission characteristics and emission current stability were evaluated. Benefiting from controlled fabrication with real-time observation, the ZrC nanoneedle has a smooth surface and a tip with a radius of curvature smaller than 20 nm and a length greater than 2 μm. Due to its low work function and well-controlled morphology, the ZrC nanoneedle emitter, positioned in a high-vacuum chamber, was able to generate a single and collimated electron beam with a current of 1.

Entropy Production in an Electro-Membrane Process at Underlimiting Currents-Influence of Temperature.

Entropy (Basel)

Department of Structure of Matter, Thermal Physics and Electronics, Faculty of Physics, Complutense University of Madrid, 28040 Madrid, Spain.

The entropy production in the polarization phenomena occurring in the underlimiting regime, when an electric current circulates through a single cation-exchange membrane system, has been investigated in the 3-40 °C temperature range. From the analysis of the current-voltage curves and considering the electro-membrane system as a unidimensional heterogeneous system, the total entropy generation in the system has been estimated from the contribution of each part of the system. Classical polarization theory and the irreversible thermodynamics approach have been used to determine the total electric potential drop and the entropy generation, respectively, associated with the different transport mechanisms in each part of the system.

Organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs) are crucial in defining the operational modes and performance of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). However, studies on the design and structure-performance correlations of small-molecule n-type OMIECs remain scarce. Herein, we designed and synthesized a series of naphthalene diimide (NDI)-based n-type small molecules by extending π-conjugation and increasing the number of electron-withdrawing groups, achieving performance optimization and even changes in operational modes through structural regulations.
