Empty azygos fissure implies dislocation of the azygos vein to the mediastinal side of the right upper lobe from azygos fissure, which is usually secondary to pneumothorax, pleural effusion, parenchymal fibrosis, vertebral collapse or persistent vomiting. We are presenting here a case where a separated azygos vein in CT and radiography images was noted. Moreover, in the follow-up images, it appeared that the complete reexpansion of the right lung resulted in reentrance of the azygos vein into azygos fissure in its native position.

We present a case of post-Norwood hypoplastic left heart syndrome that required enlargement of the anastomosis between the native ascending aorta and the neoaorta at the time of a bidirectional Glenn procedure. The azygos vein was a useful material for patch augmentation of a hypoplastic ascending aorta.

Azygos vein aneurysm is a rare finding with sparse documentation in the medical literature. We present the case of a large thrombosed azygos vein aneurysm and its successful treatment by surgical resection. The size, shape, and nature of the aneurysm as well as the symptomatic presentation substantiated surgical management, which we propose is a safe and effective management strategy for similar cases.

Whereas these patients most commonly present with edema and varicosities, a rare presentation is esophageal varices. Inferior vena cava (IVC) anomalies are rare congenital pathologies related to variations of agenesis, hypoplasia, or atresia, predisposing patients to thromboembolic events secondary to an alteration in venous drainage with resultant stasis. This is a case report of a 27-year-old male without significant medical history presenting for a fall after playing recreational basketball with associated pain and swelling in his left lower extremity. After his symptoms progressively worsened, he came to the emergency room for an evaluation where an ultrasound (US) of the extremity showed extensive deep vein thromboses (DVT).
