In the present work, we explore soliton and roguelike wave solutions in the transmission line analog of a nonlinear left-handed metamaterial. The nonlinearity is expressed through a voltage-dependent, symmetric capacitance motivated by recently developed ferroelectric barium strontium titanate thin-film capacitor designs. We develop both the corresponding nonlinear dynamical lattice and its reduction via a multiple scales expansion to a nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) model for the envelope of a given carrier wave. The reduced model can feature either a focusing or a defocusing nonlinearity depending on the frequency (wave number) of the carrier. We then consider the robustness of different types of solitary waves of the reduced model within the original nonlinear left-handed medium. We find that both bright and dark solitons persist in a suitable parametric regime, where the reduction to the NLS model is valid. Additionally, for suitable initial conditions, we observe a rogue wave type of behavior that differs significantly from the classic Peregrine rogue wave evolution, including most notably the breakup of a single Peregrine-like pattern into solutions with multiple wave peaks. Finally, we touch upon the behavior of generalized members of the family of the Peregrine solitons, namely, Akhmediev breathers and Kuznetsov-Ma solitons, and explore how these evolve in the left-handed transmission line.

[Formula: see text] absorption in a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) with Dirac spectrum is demonstrated to be obtained by controlling the interference of multiple incident radiations, referred to as coherent perfect absorption (CPA). However, when a 2DEG such as graphene is exposed to a magnetostatic bias, it resonantly could absorb electromagnetic radiation by transitions of its Dirac electrons between non-equidistant and nonlinear Landau levels. Here, the magneto-optical terahertz (THz) CPA in graphene under the quantum Hall effect (QHE) regime at both strong and subtesla magnetostatic bias fields is addressed.

A series of homochiral coordination polymers (HCPs), [M(SIAP)(bpy)] [M(S)] and [M(RIAP)(bpy)] [M(R)] (M = Zn or Cd, SIAP or RIAP = (S,S)- or (R,R)- 2,2'-(isophthaloylbis(azanediyl))di-propionic acid, bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine), is successfully synthesized through solvothermal reactions, self-assembling d metal cations, chiral dicarboxylic ligands, and π-conjugated bipyridyl ligands. The HCPs crystallize in the extremely rare triclinic chiral space group, P1, and present 3D framework structures attributed to the strong intermolecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking. Due to the unique crystal structures, the title compounds reveal efficient photoluminescence emission across a broad visible range, with significant brightness and color tuning by varying the excitation wavelength.

Metals play an important role in the structure and functions of various proteins. The combination of metal ions and peptides have been emerging as an attractive field to create advanced structures and biomaterials. Here, we are reporting the anion-influenced, silver ion coordinated diverse networks of designed short tripeptide 3 -helices with terminal pyridyl groups.

Firstly, for the problem of super-resolution information loss in the received scattering field in general scenes, the LHM slab is used to construct a perfect lens to recover the evanescent wave component that carries super-resolution information. Secondly, the compressed sensing (CS) method is applied to image the sparse targets under the LHM environment.

We investigate the laser emission from a polymer-cholesteric liquid crystal superstructure with coexisting opposite chiralities fabricated by refilling a right-handed polymeric scaffold with a left-handed cholesteric liquid crystalline material. The superstructure exhibits two photonic band gaps corresponding to the right- and left-circularly polarized light. By adding a suitable dye, dual-wavelength lasing with orthogonal circular polarizations is realized in this single-layer structure.
