We report an electrophilic cyclization of alkynyl imines to afford polysubstituted 3-haloquinolines using CuX-activated N-halosuccinimdes (NXS) as electrophiles. Control experiments demonstrated that the NXS/CuX system might be more active than single NXS and could be applied in the electrophilic cyclization of electron- deficient substrates.

Nitroso groups are widely present in biologically active compounds in medicinal chemistry, and nitroso compounds serve as important building blocks in organic chemistry and materials science. Nitrosoarenes, in particular, showcase remarkable versatility, functioning as both electrophilic and nucleophilic reagents in a broad spectrum of organic reactions, thereby holding significant relevance in organic chemistry. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in nitrosoarene reactions spanning a decade.

A Trithia-Bridged N-Heterotriangulene: The Hitherto Missing Electron Donor.

Organisch-Chemisches Institut, Universität Heidelberg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 270, 69120, Heidelberg, Germany.

The very first representative of trithia-bridged N-heterotriangulene, a triphenylamine with sulfur atoms bridging the ortho-positions, was synthesized by a sequence of regioselective sulfenylation with phthalimidesulfenyl chloride followed by Lewis acid-catalyzed electrophilic cyclization. X-ray crystallography revealed a saddle-shaped geometry of the polycyclic scaffold. UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to characterize the optoelectronic properties.

Intermolecular Asymmetric Arylative Dearomatization of 1-Naphthols.

Arylative dearomatization forms quaternary stereocenters in cyclic systems with the concomitant introduction of an aromatic ring. Pd-catalyzed arylative dearomatization, which uses conditions analogous to cross-coupling, has emerged as a powerful method in an intramolecular context. But translating this from intramolecular cyclizations to an intermolecular process has proven extremely challenging: examples are scarce, and those that exist have not been rendered enantioselective, despite the potential for broad application in medicinal chemistry and natural product synthesis.

Benzofuran is an important backbone for molecules that make up several pharmaceuticals, herbicides/pesticides, and organo-electronics. An environmentally benign dimethyl(methylthio)sulfonium tetrafluoroborate salt was used as an electrophile to induce cyclization of -alkynyl anisoles to form 2,3-disubstituted benzofurans. The cyclization is performed at ambient reaction conditions, only takes 12 hours to get excellent yields, and shows a high tolerance for various substituted alkynes.

Here, we present a general method for the photoinduced Pd-catalyzed deoxygenative Heck reaction of vinyl arenes with -iodophenyl-thionocarbonate derived from alcohols. Mechanistic studies reveal that the deoxygenation involves a 5--trig cyclization and fragmentation process, with radical addition identified as the rate-determining step in this transformation. This one-pot procedure demonstrates excellent selectivity for less hindered hydroxyl groups in diols, facilitating late-stage functionalization of complex molecules and scalability to gram-scale synthesis.
