The properties of enzymes can be altered significantly by modification with polymers. Numerous different methods are known to obtain such polymer-enzyme conjugates (PECs). However, there is no universal method to render enzymes into PECs that are fully soluble in organic solvents. Here, we present a method, which achieves such high degree of modification of proteins that the majority of modified enzymes will be soluble in organic solvents. This is achieved by preparing poly(2-alkyloxazoline)s (POx) with an NH end group and coupling this functional polymer via pyromellitic acid dianhydride onto the amino groups of the respective protein. The resulting PECs are capable of serving as surfactants for unmodified proteins, rendering the whole mixture organosoluble. Depending on the nature of the POx and the molecular weight and the nature of the enzyme, the PECs are soluble in chloroform or even toluene. Another advantage of this method is that the poly(2-alkyloxazoline) can be activated with the coupling agent and used for the enzyme conjugation without further purification. The POx-enzyme conjugates generated by this modification strategy show modulated catalytic activity in both, aqueous and organic, systems.

Soda lakes are unique double-extreme habitats characterized by high salinity and soluble carbonate alkalinity, yet harboring rich prokaryotic life. Despite intensive microbiology studies, little is known about the identity of the soda lake hydrolytic bacteria responsible for the primary degradation of the biomass organic matter, in particular cellulose. In this study, aerobic and anaerobic enrichment cultures with three forms of native insoluble cellulose inoculated with sediments from five soda lakes in south-western Siberia resulted in the isolation of four cellulotrophic haloalkaliphilic bacteria and their four saccharolytic satellites.

Considering the demand for organosulfur materials and the challenges associated with currently used oxidation processes, in this study, we evaluated the counter-cation of sodium chlorite (Na+ClO2-) with tetrabutylammonium chloride (Bu4N+Cl-) to synthesise tetrabutylammonium chlorite (Bu4N+ClO2-). Bu4N+ClO2- exhibited good solubility in organic solvents like chloroform (1.6 g mL-1) and ethyl acetate (0.

Organic anode materials have garnered attention for use in rechargeable Li-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to their lightweight, cost-effectiveness, and tunable properties. However, challenges such as high electrolyte solubility and limited conductivity, restrict their use in full-cell LIBs. Here, we report the use of highly crystalline Cl-substituted contorted hexabenzocoronene (Cl-cHBC) as an efficient organic anode for full-cell LIBs.

Karst caves, formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks, are characterized by the absence of photosynthetic activity and low levels of organic matter. Organisms evolve under these particular conditions, which causes high levels of endemic biodiversity in both macroorganism and microbes. Recent research has highlighted the presence of testate amoebae (Arcellinida) group in cave environments.

Water-soluble metal-organic cages (WSMOCs) show high potential as antitumor agents, while the targeted functionalization of WSMOCs toward enhanced antitumor performances is a challenging task. Herein, WSMOCs were functionalized with donor-acceptor (D-A) systems for synergistic photothermal-chemotherapy. Octahedral [ML] cages based on a 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridine-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPT) acceptor and M(bpy) (M = Pd for , Pt for ) nodes were functionalized with tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) to form and .
