Background: Many large-scaled public hospitals have established branched hospitals in China. This study is to provide evidence for strategy making on the management and development of multi-branched hospitals by evaluating and comparing the operational efficiencies of different hospitals before and after their establishment of branched hospitals.

Methods: DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) window analysis was performed on a 7-year data pool from five public hospitals provided by health authorities and institutional surveys.

Results: The operational efficiencies of sample hospitals measured in this study (including technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency) had overall trends towards increase during this 7-year period of time, however, a temporary downturn occurred shortly after the establishment of branched hospitals; pure technical efficiency contributed more to the improvement of technical efficiency compared to scale efficiency.

Conclusions: The establishment of branched-hospitals did not lead to a long-term negative effect on hospital operational efficiencies. Our data indicated the importance of improving scale efficiency via the optimization of organizational management, as well as the advantage of a different form of branch-establishment, merging and reorganization. This study brought an insight into the practical application of DEA window analysis on the assessment of hospital operational efficiencies.

Introduction: The present study aimed to explore the epidemiologic threats and factors associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated mucormycosis (CAM) epidemic that emerged in Egypt during the second COVID-19 wave. The study also aimed to explore the diagnostic features and the role of surgical interventions of CAM on the outcome of the disease in a central referral hospital.

Methodology: The study included 64 CAM patients from a referral hospital for CAM and a similar number of matched controls from COVID-19 patients who did not develop CAM.

Background: Ovarian cancer (OC), particularly high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC), is the leading cause of mortality from gynecological malignancies worldwide. Despite the initial effectiveness of treatment, acquired resistance to poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPis) represents a major challenge for the clinical management of HGSOC, highlighting the necessity for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. This study investigated the role of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3), a pivotal regulator of glycolysis, in PARPi resistance and explored its potential as a therapeutic target to overcome PARPi resistance.

Comparative evaluation of allograft particulate bone and cortical bone blocks combined with xenograft bone for labial bone defects in the aesthetic zone: a prospective cohort study.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Department of Implant Dentistry, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the osteogenic performance of allograft particulate bone and cortical bone blocks combined with xenograft under bovine pericardium membranes, for treating different degrees of labial bone defects in the aesthetic zone.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four patients with bone defects were divided into two groups based on defect severity (Terheyden 1/4 and 2/4 groups). The Terheyden 1/4 group received granular bone grafts alone, while the Terheyden 2/4 group received cortical bone blocks combined with granular bone grafts.

In order to solve the limitations of flipped classroom in personalized teaching and interactive effect improvement, this paper designs a new model of flipped classroom in colleges and universities based on Virtual Reality (VR) by combining the algorithm of Contrastive Language-Image Pre-Training (CLIP). Through cross-modal data fusion, the model deeply combines students' operation behavior with teaching content, and improves teaching effect through intelligent feedback mechanism. The test data shows that the similarity between video and image modes reaches 0.

To establish a multivariate linear regression model for predicting the difficulty of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation of uterine fibroids based on multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging radiomics features. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 218 patients with uterine fibroids who underwent HIFU treatment, including 178 cases from Yongchuan Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and 40 cases from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University (external validation set). Radiomics features were extracted and selected from magnetic resonance images, and potentially related imaging features were collected.
