In order to address dosimetry demands during proton therapy treatments utilizing pencil beam scanning and/or pulsed beam accelerators, we have developed a xenon-filled gas scintillation detector (GSD) that can monitor delivered dose and 2D beam centroid position pulse-by-pulse in real time, with high response linearity up to high instantaneous dose rates. We present design considerations for the GSD and results of beam tests carried out at operating proton therapy clinics. In addition to demonstrating spatial resolution with σ of a few hundred microns in each transverse dimension and relative dose precision better than 1% over large treatment areas, the test beam results also reveal the dependence of the GSD dose normalization on dose rate, beam energy, and gas impurities. The results demonstrate the promise of the GSD technology to provide an important addition to dosimetry approaches for next-generation ion beam therapy.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate the incidence and volume of contrast medium extrusion when activated with a laser and to compare these outcomes with those of other irrigation techniques.

Materials And Methods: Sixteen cadaver mandibles containing 116 single-rooted teeth were prepared using conventional rotary instrumentation. The teeth were randomly assigned to four irrigation groups: side-vented needle, sonic irrigation, laser activation at the orifice, and laser activation at the middle third of the canal.

While radiation hazards induced by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) can be reduced by sparse-view sampling, the image quality is inevitably degraded. We propose a deep learning-based multi-view projection synthesis (DLMPS) approach to improve the quality of sparse-view low-dose CBCT images. In the proposed DLMPS approach, linear interpolation was first applied to sparse-view projections and the projections were rearranged into sinograms; these sinograms were processed with a sinogram restoration model and then rearranged back into projections.

Intelligent control algorithms for posture and height control of four-leg hydraulic supports.

School of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering, China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing, 100083, China.

To address limitations of traditional inclinometers and height sensors in determining the posture and support height of hydraulic supports in coal mining, we propose a novel method predicated on travel measurements of the leg and tail beam cylinders. This method calculates the posture and height of hydraulic supports in mechanized mining. By conducting meticulous kinematic analysis of the hydraulic supports, a skeleton model of the main structural parameters of the hydraulic support was constructed.

This experimental phantom study investigates current standard of care protocols in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), energy-integrating-detector (EID) CT, and photon-counting-detector (PCD) CT regarding their potential in delineation of dental root canals. Artificial accessory canals (diameters: 1000, 600, 400, 300 and 200 μm) were drilled into three bovine teeth mounted on a bovine rib as a jaw substitute. The phantom was scanned in two dental CBCTs, two EID-CTs and a PCD-CT using standard clinical protocols.

Effect of Fabricating Process on the Performance of Two-Dimensional p-Type WSe Field Effect Transistors.

Nano Lett

Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Two-Dimensional Materials, State Key Laboratory for Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha 410082, China.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), such as WSe, are promising candidates for next-generation integrated circuits. However, the dependence of intrinsic properties of TMD devices on various processing steps remains largely unexplored. Here, using pristine p-type WSe devices as references, we comprehensively studied the influence of each step in traditional nanofabrication methods on device performance.
