Bare gold nanospheres have been shown to have anti-angiogenic effects but are optically unfavorable because their resonant wavelength lies in the visible spectrum. Here, we design gold nanodisks with a higher scattering capability than gold nanorods and with a resonant wavelength at near-infrared region - the area where the source of light utilized by optical coherence tomography (OCT) lies. With a physical synthesis system, we then fabricate 160-nm-sized gold nanodisks exhibiting resonant wavelength at 830 nm. The synthesized nanoparticles were successfully visualized in in vivo OCT at concentrations as low as 1 pM. After demonstrating their binding ability to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), we show that they suppress VEGF-induced migration of endothelial cells. Finally, we demonstrate that intravitreally injected gold nanodisks attenuate neovascularization of oxygen-induced retinopathy in mice, in a dose dependent manner, such that they are cleared from the vitreous within 2 weeks without histologic or electrophysiologic toxicity.

Nanostructured high-index dielectrics have shown great promise as low-loss photonic platforms for wavefront control and enhancing optical nonlinearities. However, their potential as optomechanical resonators has remained unexplored. In this work, we investigate the generation and detection of coherent acoustic phonons in individual crystalline gallium phosphide nanodisks on silica in a pump-probe configuration.

Magnonics, which harnesses the unique properties of spin waves, offers promising advancements in data processing due to its broad frequency range, nonlinear dynamics, and scalability for on-chip integration. Effective information encoding in magnonic systems requires precise spatial and temporal control of spin waves. Here, we demonstrate the rapid optical control of spin-wave transport in hybrid magnonic-plasmonic structures.

By fitting scattering curves and near-field oscillations, we determine the dephasing time of CTP modes in conductively connected gold nanodisk dimers. We show that, compared with the well-known particle plasmon and dimer plasmon modes, the CTP mode has a narrow spectral width and longer lifetime.

The chirality and chiroptical response of materials have attracted significant attention for their potential to introduce the new science of light-matter interactions. We demonstrate that collective mode formation under modal coupling between localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) with a chiral arrangement and Fabry-Pérot (FP) nanocavity modes can induce chiroptical responses. We fabricated a cluster of isotropic gold nanodisks with a chiral arrangement (gold nano-windmills, Au-NWs) on the FP nanocavities of TiO and Au film.

With nonmagnetic metal nanostructures, the IFE is dominated by the presence of light-induced solenoidal surface currents or plasmons with orbital angular momenta, whose properties depend on both the light and nanostructure geometry. Here, through a systematic study of gold nanodisks with different sizes, we demonstrate order-of-magnitude enhancement of the IFE compared to a bare gold film.
