Mill., commonly called fennel, is a medicinal plant belonging to the Umbelliferae (Apiaceae) family, and is used in traditional medicine. Antibacterial peptides were isolated using sodium phosphate citrate buffer and, for extraction, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) buffer with pH 6, have been employed and antimicrobial activity tested against four reference strains. The extracted protein was subjected to 3 kDa dialysis and separation was carried out by DEAE-ion exchange chromatography and further proteins were identified by 2D gel electrophoresis. The results of elutes obtained from DEAE-ion exchange chromatography were tested for antibacterial activity. Elute 3 shows the highest antibacterial activity on with a diameter of a zone of inhibition of 16 mm and IC value 25.02 (mcg/mL). Based on the findings of the wide usage in treatment of various ailments and day-to-day life, seeds were used in the present research and have shown promising antibacterial effects, which requires further proteomic research to authenticate the role of the anticipated proteins.

Background: Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins with various pharmacological activities, such as antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, and anticancer. Punica granatum fruit extract has traditional uses, however, the anti-cancer activity of purified lectin isolated from P. granatum pulp is yet to be reported.

In this study, we obtained the crude IOP by the water extraction and alcohol precipitation method, and then classified it by DEAE ion-exchange chromatography to obtain the acidic polysaccharide (IOP-A). After the administration of the IOP-A, the serum TC, TG, and LDL-C levels were significantly lower, while the serum HDL-C levels were significantly higher.

One purified neutral polysaccharide fraction was obtained from the rhizome of by DEAE ion exchange and gel chromatography. Structure elucidation was performed by methanolysis, methylation, FT-IR, and NMR. The results indicated that PSP-NP was composed of 1,4-β-D-Gal,1, 4, 6-β-D-Gal, T-α-D-Man,1, 4-α-D-Glc, and T-α-D-Glc with a molecular weight of 43.

Echis pyramidum (Epy) is a venomous snake belongs to Viperidae family; it causes fetal coagulopathy systemic effects and death. Searching for more effective and safe antivenom is mandatory for viper bites treatment. Proteases are the most lethal components in viper venom inducing hemorrhage, edema and coagulation problems.

We extracted and purified three polysaccharides from Echinacea purpurea using pectinase-assisted extraction to obtain crude preparations and optimized the method using an orthogonal analysis. We obtained three polysaccharide fractions (EPPS-1, -2 and -3) using DEAE ion exchange and gel filtration chromatography. The homogeneity of the fractions was confirmed using high performance gel permeation chromatography.
