Constipation occurs frequently in both sows and humans, particularly, during late gestation. The microbial community of the porcine gut, the enteric microbiota, plays a critical role in functions that sustain intestinal health. Hence, microbial regulation during pregnancy may be important to prevent host constipation. The present study was conducted to determine whether L-glutamine (Gln) supplementation improved intestinal function and alleviated constipation by regulation of enteric microbiota. 16S rRNA sequences obtained from fecal samples from 9 constipated sows (3 in the constipation group and 6 in the 1.0% Gln group) were assessed from gestational day 70 to 84. Comparative analysis showed that the abundance of intestinal-friendly microbiota, that is, Bacteroidetes ( = 0.007) and Actinobacteria ( = 0.037), was comparatively increased in the 1.0% Gln group, while the abundance of pernicious bacteria, ( < 0.001) and ( = 0.011), was decreased. Dietary supplementation with 1.0% Gln may ameliorate constipation of sows by regulated endogenous gut microbiota.

Hepatoencephalopathy (HE) is a liver disease that can lead to brain pathology and the impairment of human cognitive abilities. The objective assessment of HE disease severity is difficult due to the lack of reliable diagnostic markers. This paper examines the background to the emergence of HE markers and provides a brief overview of research results indicating the diagnostic value of potential markers isolated from a wide range of metabolites analyzed.

The fusion assembly strategy of supramolecular chemistry combined with dynamic covalent chemistry has provided novel insights into the design of precision nutrition and intelligent drug delivery carriers. This work involved the development of a supramolecular self-assembly originating from entropy- and enthalpy-driven dynamic covalent bonding on Schiff bases between egg white-derived peptide Gln-Ile-Gly-Leu-Phe (QIGLF) and glutaraldehyde (GA), denoted QIGLF-GA. The assembly exhibited outstanding assembly characteristics and multiwavelength autofluorescence properties.

This study aims to identify a metabolomic signature that facilitates the classification of syncope and the categorization of the unexplained syncope (US) to aid in its management. We compared a control group (CTRL, = 10) with a transient loss of consciousness (TLC) group divided into the OH group ( = 23) for orthostatic syncope, the NMS group ( = 26) for neuromediated syncope, the CS group ( = 9) for cardiological syncope, and the US group ( = 27) for US defined as syncope without a precise categorization after first- and second-level diagnostic approaches. The CTRL and the TLC groups significantly differed in metabolic profile.

Introduction: l-glutamine has been shown to have cardioprotective effects in models of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Its potential cardioprotective effects when given before and during early reperfusion, however, have not been studied.
Methods: This study hypothesized that l-glutamine administered before and after myocardial ischemia provides better cardioprotection than when administered after ischemia only.
