In recent years it turned out that there is not only extensive communication between the nucleus and mitochondria but also between mitochondria and lipid droplets (LDs) as well. We were able to demonstrate that a number of proteins shuttle between LDs and mitochondria and it depends on the metabolic state of the cell on which organelle these proteins are predominantly localized. Responsible for the localization of the particular proteins is a protein domain consisting of two -helices, which we termed V-domain according to the predicted structure. So far we have detected this domain in the following proteins: mammalian BAX, BCL-XL, TCTP and yeast Mmi1p and Erg6p. According to our experiments there are two functions of this domain: (1) shuttling of proteins to mitochondria in times of stress and apoptosis; (2) clearing the outer mitochondrial membrane from pro- as well as anti-apoptotic proteins by moving them to LDs after the stress ceases. In this way the LDs are used by the cell to modulate stress response.

The two-dimensional (2D) "sandwich" structure composed of a cation plane located between two anion planes, such as anion-rich CrI, VS, VSe, and MnSe, possesses exotic magnetic and electronic structural properties and is expected to be a typical base for next-generation microelectronic, magnetic, and spintronic devices. However, only a few 2D anion-rich "sandwich" materials have been experimentally discovered and fabricated, as they are vastly limited by their conventional stoichiometric ratios and structural stability under ambient conditions. Here, we report a 2D anion-rich NaCl crystal with sandwiched structure confined within graphene oxide membranes with positive surface potential.

Introduction: Mucinous Cystadenocarcinoma (MCA) of the breast remains a relatively rare condition, and to date, there is no systematic summary of its imaging manifestations. Therefore, this report presents a detailed account of the diagnosis and treatment of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in a 40-year-old woman, with a particular focus on imaging findings. Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive literature review on this disease and summarized its key imaging features.

The coastline of Okinawa Island, Japan, has been affected by human-made alterations for decades, often from land reclamation and coastal defense construction. Here, we use an Imperial Japanese Army map made between 1919 and 1921 to describe the composition of the Okinawan coastline approximately 100 years ago, and by overlapping this old map with a modern-day map of Okinawa (2018), we identified 131 sites where coastlines showed clear human-made alterations. For these sites, we examined what kinds of ecosystems were lost and what has replaced them.

The escalating prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections has emerged as a critical global health crisis, undermining the efficacy of conventional antibiotic therapies. This pressing challenge necessitates the development of innovative strategies to combat MDR pathogens. Advances in multifunctional drug delivery systems offer promising solutions to reduce or eradicate MDR bacteria.
