In this article, we introduce a new optical energy focusing structure consisting of a circular dielectric Bragg nanocavity and a circular metallic plasmonic lens. Via the hybridization of Bragg cavity modes and surface plasmon modes, optical energy is highly confined in the central region of the Bragg nanocavity under linearly polarized illumination. When either a bowtie nano-antenna (BNA) or a magnetic resonator (MR) is placed on this focusing structure, the energy can be high-efficiently coupled and focused into the BNA or MR. Simulations show that the electric field enhancement (|E|/|E|) in the BNA and magnetic field enhancement (|H|/|H|) in the MR can be more than 3000 and 200, respectively. This proposed hybrid dielectric-metallic structure opens a new avenue in energy focusing and transferring and provides opportunities for various applications, including single-molecule SERS, optical trapping, photolithography, fluorescent microscopy, magnetic sensors, etc.

Context: This study systematically investigated the effects of single S-atom vacancy defects and composite defects (vacancy combined with doping) on the properties of MoS using density functional theory. The results revealed that N-doped S-vacancy MoS has the smallest composite defect formation energy, indicating its highest stability. Doping maintained the direct band gap characteristic, with shifts in the valence band top.

Context: The study of the influence of solvent on 1-bromo adamantane (BAD) exposes prominent solvatochromatic shifts in the optical absorbance and substantial solvent effects on the electronic structure. This facilitates the molecular probe abilities for the BAD with respect to the surrounding environments such as dielectric constant and polarity. BAD exhibits positive solvatochromism for nonpolar solvents and negative solvatochromatic shifts for polar and aromatic solvents.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are often employed in oxygen reduction reactions (ORR) for hydrogen peroxide production due to their tunable structures and compositions. However, COF electrocatalysts require precise structural engineering, such as heteroatoms or metal site doping, to modulate the reaction pathway during the ORR process. In this work, we designed a tetraphenyl-p-phenylenediamine based COF electrocatalyst, namely TPDA-BDA, which exhibited excellent two-electron (2e) ORR performance with high H2O2 selectivity of 89.

Passive daytime radiative cooling offers a promising approach to address energy, environmental, and safety issues caused by global warming. However, the contradiction between high radiative cooling performance and long-lasting ultraviolet (UV) durability is a primary limitation at the current stage. Here, inspired by the ability of epidermal cells and palisade cells on the leaf surface to protect internal leaf structures (such as chloroplasts and nuclei) under drought and high-temperature conditions, a double-layer passive radiative cooling (PRC) porous membrane, which consists of an upper protective layer densely packed with highly ultraviolet-reflective inorganic particles and a bottom cooling layer doped with a variety of optically characterized inorganic particles, was developed to overcome these challenges.

A halobenzene molecule contains several sites that are capable of acting in an electron-donating capacity within a H-bond. One set of such sites comprise the lone electron pairs of the halogen (X) atoms on the periphery of the ring. The π-electron system above the ring plane can also fulfill this function in many cases.
