Gliomas represent a broad spectrum of disease with life-expectancy outcomes ranging from months to decades. As our understanding of the molecular profiles of gliomas expands rapidly, practitioners are now better able to identify patients with favorable versus nonfavorable prognoses. Radiation therapy plays a key role in glioma treatment, improving disease control and oftentimes survival. However, for survivors, either long-term or short-term, radiation-induced cognitive impairments may negatively impact their quality of life. For patients with both favorable and unfavorable prognoses, intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) may offer significant, yet unproven benefits. IMPT is the newest and most advanced proton delivery technique, one with substantial benefits compared with historical proton techniques. IMPT allows practitioners to maximize the physical benefits of protons, increasing normal tissue sparing and reducing the potential for adverse effects. For more aggressive tumors, the dose conformality and normal tissue sparing afforded by IMPT may also allow for dose escalation to target volumes. However, in order to truly maximize the clinical potential of IMPT, the field of radiation oncology must not only implement the most advanced technologies, but also understand and capitalize on the unique biologic aspects of proton therapy.

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a gut-brain axis disorder characterized by postprandial fullness, early satiety, bloating and/or epigastric pain, which are presumed to originate in the gastroduodenal tract. While the international recommendations in the Rome IV consensus require endoscopy to rule out an organic condition before establishing a diagnosis of FD, international guidelines recommend that, in the absence of risk factors, patient management be initiated at the primary care level by establishing Helicobacter pylori infection status, with eradication when positive, followed by empiric therapy with proton pump inhibitors and/or prokinetics, and that endoscopy be reserved for patients refractory to said measures. Second-line therapy includes neuromodulating agents, among which tricyclic antidepressants and atypical antipsychotics such as levosulpiride stand out.

Purpose: The spot size of scanned particle beams is of crucial importance for the correct dose delivery and, therefore, plays a significant role in the quality assurance (QA) of pencil beam scanning ion beam therapy.
Materials And Methods: This study compares 5 detector types-radiochromic film, ionization chamber (IC) array, flat panel detector, multiwire chamber, and IC-for measuring the spot size of proton and carbon ion beams.
Results: Variations of up to 30% were found between detectors, underscoring the impact of detector choice on QA outcomes.
Background And Purpose: Radiation induced image changes (IC) on MRI have been observed after proton therapy for brain tumours. This study aims to create predictive models, with and without taking into account patient variation, based on dose, linear energy transfer (LET) and periventricular zone (PVZ) in a national cohort of patients with glioma treated with pencil beam scanning (PBS).
Materials And Methods: A cohort of 87 consecutive patients with oligodendroglioma or astrocytoma (WHO grade 2-4) treated with PBS from January 2019 to December 2021 was included.

Ferroptosis is a unique cell death mode that relies on iron and lipid peroxidation (LPO) and is extensively utilized to treat drug-resistant tumor. However, like the other antitumor model, requirement of oxygen limited its application in treating the malignant tumors in anaerobic environments, just as photodynamic therapy, a very promising anticancer therapy. Here, we show that an iridium(III) complex (Ir-dF), which was often used in proton-coupled electron transport (PCET) process, can induce efficient cell death upon photo irradiation, which can be effectively protected by the typical ferroptosis inhibitor Fer-1 but not by the classic iron chelating agents and ROS scavengers.

We aimed to determine the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and oropharyngeal dysphagia as explanatory diagnoses, risk factors for acid suppression treatment, and risk factors for repeat hospital visit in infants hospitalized after brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE) using a multicenter pediatric database. We performed a multicenter retrospective database study of infants admitted with BRUE in the Pediatric Health Information System between 2016 and 2021. Data included diagnostic testing, explanatory diagnoses, treatment with acid suppression, and related repeat hospital visits within 6 months.
