Patients with congenital ocular motor apraxia (OMA) typically show head thrusts while attempting to shift gaze. In congenital OMA, this compensatory head motion mostly occurs in the horizontal plane. Two patients with acquired palsy of voluntary vertical gaze and continuous upward gaze deviation, one from aortic surgery and the other from multiple infarctions involving the mesodiencephalic junction, showed intermittent downward head thrusting to redirect the eyes straight ahead or downward. The head thrusting behavior improved markedly after surgical correction of the upward gaze deviation in one patient. Vertical head thrusting may be a characteristic sign of acquired vertical gaze palsy when combined with vertical gaze deviation.

Infectious acute pneumonia caused by bacteria has been a great challenge to human health for long time, and the rapid clearance of aerosolized antibiotics in the lungs restricts their clinical application. The development of nanoformulations with facile preparation and mucoadhesive properties for the pulmonary delivery of antibiotics is thus significant for the treatment of infectious acute pneumonia. In this study, FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-approved tannic acid (TA) was used to construct mucoadhesive nanoformulations through the facile coating of chitosan (CS) to achieve long-lasting anti-infection effects against infectious acute pneumonia.

Purpose: To explore the interobserver reliability of drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) for patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) of two classification systems.
Methods: DISE examinations were recorded digitally for all patients and were evaluated independently by five examiners blinded to all patient data. Areas of obstruction were rated using VOTE (velum, oropharynx lateral wall, tongue base, epiglottis) classification and PTLTbE (palate, tonsils, lateral pharyngeal wall, tongue base, epiglottis) classification.

Background: Neck pain is a common condition, and a frequent treatment is chiropractic cervical spinal manipulation therapy (cSMT). However, cervical spinal manipulations have been associated with excessive cervical artery elongations, allegedly causing arterial dissection leading to stroke.
Purpose: The primary purpose of this study was to quantify the total vertebral artery elongations during cSMT, and secondarily, quantify the vertebral artery elongations during the pre-manipulative orientation of the head and neck and the subsequent elongations during the actual thrust.
