Generation of β-Halo Vinylsulfones through a Multicomponent Reaction with Insertion of Sulfur Dioxide.

A four-component reaction of terminal alkynes, aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, sulfur dioxide surrogate of DABCO⋅(SO ) , and potassium halide in the presence of copper(I) chloride (10 mol %) gives rise to β-halo vinylsulfones with good stereoselectivity. The vicinal difunctionalization of alkynes through sulfonylation and halogenation with the insertion of sulfur dioxide works efficiently. A plausible mechanism is proposed, which includes a radical process.

In this work, a multicomponent polymerization (MCP) approach involving bipyrroles, sulfonyl azides, and diynes was developed to afford a library of poly(bipyrrole-sulfonylimide)s (PPSIs) in high yields and molecular weights, which were further modified to form unique sulfur dioxide (SO2) generators. Bipyrroles served as carbon-based nucleophiles to undergo Cu-catalyzed C-C coupling during the MCP. Upon post-MCP modification by transforming the bipyrrole unit to boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) and the sulfonylimide moiety to sulfonamide, poly(BODIPY-sulfonamide)s (PBSAs) were obtained as potent anticancer therapeutic agents.

A highly sensitive sulfur dioxide (SO) photoacoustic gas sensor was developed for the sulfur hexafluoride (SF) decomposition detection in electric power systems by using a novel 266 nm low-cost high-power solid-state pulse laser and a high -factor differential photoacoustic cell. The ultraviolet (UV) pulse laser is based on a passive -switching technology with a high output power of 28 mW. The photoacoustic signal was normalized to the laser power to solve the fluctuation of the photoacoustic signal due to the power instability of the UV laser.

This study presents a modern mobile laboratory to monitor outdoor air quality in Bucharest, Romania, with a focus on pollutants associated with transportation. Particulate matter (PM., PM), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O), sulfur dioxide (SO), nitrogen oxides (NO, NO), and BTEX compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes) were among the significant pollutants that were examined in the lab.

Weather and air quality conditions have been anecdotally reported to be related to symptom fluctuations in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), but this has never been empirically investigated. This exploratory study aims to examine the effects of weather and air quality on daily fluctuations of chronic pain and fatigue in women with ME/CFS. In an intensive longitudinal design, 58 participants with ME/CFS provided daily pain and fatigue ratings for an average of 61 days.

This study investigates the effectiveness and efficiency of two topological data analysis (TDA) techniques, the conventional Mapper (CM) and its variant version, the Ball Mapper (BM), in analyzing the behavior of six major air pollutants (NO, PM, PM, O, CO, and SO) across 60 air quality monitoring stations in Malaysia. Topological graphs produced by CM and BM reveal redundant monitoring stations and geographical relationships corresponding to air pollutant behavior, providing better visualization than traditional hierarchical clustering. Additionally, a comparative analysis of topological graph structures was conducted using node degree distribution, topological graph indices, and Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) to evaluate the sensitivity and performance of these TDA techniques.
