Published: April 2017

This work reports first electrochemical preparation of exceptionally biocompatible, highly crystalline, and well exfoliated nitrogen doped graphene nanosheets (eNGS) from carbon nanosheets for the development of mighty platforms in the field of modern biosensing and other biological applications for human welfare. eNGS displayed exceptional biocompatibility. Administration of the as-synthesized eNGS to rat models did not lead to any significant deviation or inimical consequences in its functional observation battery (FOB) tests, GSH levels or the histology of the vital organs of the rat models. The pictomicrographs of myocytes nuclei and myofibrillar for heart, hippocampus (CA1) section for brain, central vein, and hepatocytes for liver and parenchyma, tubules and glomeruli for kidney also remained unaffected. Moreover, the resultant nanoelectrocatalyst displayed enhanced electrochemical performance towards real-time sensing of dopamine (DA) from human urine sample in the presence of interferences, such as ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA).

Widespread geogenic uranium (U) contamination of Indian groundwaters is of serious concern; yet little is known of the dominant forms and release mechanisms of U in these aquifers. Interestingly, manganese (Mn)-rich aquifers, highly buffered by dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and saturated with rhodochrosite [MnCO], have shown low U ( View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Innovative One-Step Sustainable Process to Produce Simonkolleite Nanoparticles.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics, University of L'Aquila, Piazzale E. Pontieri 1, Monteluco di Roio, Roio Poggio, 67100 L'Aquila, AQ, Italy.

The aim of the present paper is to propose an innovative, one-step and sustainable process allowing us to obtain almost 10 kg/week of pure and crystalline simonkolleite nanoparticles (SK NPs) in only 8 min of reaction, working in water, under ambient conditions of pressure/temperature, guaranteeing at the same time low environmental impact and a high yield of NP production. In addition, the obtained NPs can also act as ZnO precursors at ambient temperature, and this result supports the sustainability of the process considering that, generally, the production of ZnO from SK occurred via annealing at high temperatures. The SK NPs appeared pure and crystalline, characterized by a highly uniform hexagonal lamellar feature.

BN-Acene Ladder with Enhanced Charge Transport for Organic Field-Effect Transistors.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

Tsinghua University, Department of Chemistry, 1 Qinghuayuan, Haidian District, 100084, Beijing, CHINA.

The in-depth research on the charge transport properties of BN-embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (BN-PAHs) still lags far behind studies of their emitting properties. Herein, we report the successfully synthesis of novel ladder-type BN-PAHs (BCNL1 and BCNL2) featuring a highly ordered BC3N2 acene unit, achieved via a nitrogen-directed tandem C-H borylation. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique and compact herringbone packing structures.
