Teresa M. Treiger, RN-BC, MA, CCM, CHCQM, FABQUARP, is a thought leader inspiring Conscious Case Management practice across the health care continuum. Teri is a prolific author in journals and white papers as well as academic texts, most recently coauthor of "COLLABORATE: A Universal Competency-Based Paradigm for Professional Case Management," coeditor and contributing author of the CMSA Core Curriculum for Case Management, 3rd ed., and coauthor of Population Health Management, 6th ed., chapter on Leadership and Nursing Case Management. Teri is a past National President of the Case Management Society of America.

As in everything, case management has an evolutionary trajectory. Perhaps, the latest in case management is Conscious Case Management. In today's harried health care environment and with multiple "productivity" criteria to measure usefulness, case managers should not move to just finishing your daily responsibilities or trying to close the most cases; rather, a mindful approach, whether in listening or doing, will yield the best outcome. Instead of mindlessly completing tasks and checking off boxes, practice in-the-moment-and do so consciously.
