The canals connecting the ovarian cystocytes of Habrobracon juglandis are enclosed by a ring made up of eight leaves. Each leaf is composed of a monolayer of between and 70 short parallel microtubules which may be derived from the mid-body. The sliding of certain leaves past one another allows the ring to dilate as the cystocyte grows.

The fine structure of the female reproductive system of a cheyletid mite Bakericheyla chanayi (Trombidiformes: Cheyletidae) is investigated for the first time. This system consists of an unpaired ovary, glandular oviduct, receptaculum seminis, long cuticle-lined vagina, and genital atrium terminating in the genital opening. A separate sperm access system has not been found.

It is a first report on the structure of germline cells in ovaries of albino sterlet Acipenser ruthenus L. 1758. Ovarian nests, follicles, and germinal epithelium have been examined in gynogenetic and control specimens of this species.

Ovaries of Acipenser baerii are of an alimentary type and probably are meroistic. They contain ovarian nests, individual follicles, inner germinal ovarian epithelium, and fat tissue. Nests comprise cystoblasts, germline cysts, numerous early previtellogenic oocytes, and somatic cells.

Telotrophic meroistic insect ovaries are assigned to four different types. The Sialis type is found in Sialidae (Megaloptera), Raphidioptera and a coleopteran subgroup (Myxophaga: Hydroscaphidae). King and Büning (1985) proposed a hypothetical model for the development of this ovariole type; however, a detailed description of ovarian development in Sialis was missing so far.

Although a great deal of information is available concerning the role of ecdysone in insect oogenesis, research has tended to focus on vitellogenesis and choriogenesis. As such, the study of oogenesis in a strict sense has received much less attention. This situation changed recently when a number of observations carried out in the meroistic polytrophic ovarioles of Drosophila melanogaster started to unravel the key roles played by ecdysone in different steps of oogenesis.
