An ultrasensitive sandwich-type electrochemical biosensor for DNA detection is developed based on spherical silicon dioxide/molybdenum selenide (SiO@MoSe) and graphene oxide-gold nanoparticles (GO-AuNPs) hybrids as carrier triggered Hybridization Chain Reaction (HCR) coupling with multi-signal amplification. The proposed sensoring assay utilizes a spherical SiO@MoSe/AuNPs as sensing platform and GO-AuNPs hybrids as carriers to supply vast binding sites. HO+HQ system is used for DNA detection and HCR as the signal and selectivity enhancer. The sensor is designed in sandwich type to increase the specificity. As a result, the present biosensor exhibits a good dynamic range from 0.1fM to 100pM with a low detection limit of 0.068fM (S/N=3). This work shows a considerable potential for quantitative detection of DNA in early clinical diagnostics.

Reducing the time required for the detection of bacteria in blood samples is a critical area of investigation in the field of clinical diagnosis. Positive blood culture samples often require a plate culture stage due to the interference of blood cells and proteins, which can result in significant delays before the isolation of single colonies suitable for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis. In this study, we developed a non-specific enrichment strategy based on SiO-encapsulated FeO nanoparticles combined with MALDI-TOF MS for direct identification of bacteria from aqueous environments or positive blood culture samples.

Objective: Toric intraocular lens implantation has been used to correct corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery. The study aimed to compare the visual outcomes between manual vs markerless toric intraocular lens implantation in astigmatic correction.
Methods: The medical records of patients at American Eye Center who underwent phacoemulsification by multiple surgeons with insertion of monofocal or multifocal toric lenses via manual marking and markerless method from 2010-2019 were reviewed.

The study focused on converting tea bag waste into strong fluorescence carbon quantum dots (TBW-CQDs) for the detection of acrylamide in drinking water, antimicrobial activity, and photocatalytic degradation. The TBW-CQDs exhibited blue luminescence and maximum absorbance at 287 nm under UV light and distinctive fluorescence emission and excitation wavelengths at 425 nm and 287 nm, respectively. TBW-CQDs revealed a particle size of 8.

Here, we report the design, synthesis, and comprehensive characterization of the bis-cholesterol supramolecular gelator, which contains photochromic stiff-stilbene as a bridging unit. The -isomer of stiff-stilbene bridged bis-cholesterol (-) was first synthesized with a systematic design, which can be further converted into its -isomer (-) with a high degree of efficiency (ca. 100%) upon exposure to 385 nm UV light.

For the purpose of efficient temporary plugging and self-removal of the plugging of reservoir formations, the thermally induced expandable and acid-generating temporary plugging agent (TAPA) was prepared with acrylonitrile (AN), methacrylic acid (MAA), ,-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA), and butyl acrylate (BA) as the shell monomers as well as the carboxylate esters with high boiling points as the core material. The TAPA was structurally characterized, and the properties were studied. The results showed that the TAPA had a good spherical structure with a median particle size (D50) of 16.
