Keeping in view the importance of polysaccharide gums for wound care, in the present article, an attempt has been made to explore antioxidant nature of gum acacia in designing hydrogel wound dressing to improve its wound healing potential. These polymers were prepared by using acacia gum-polyvinylpyrollidone/carbopol and were characterized by C NMR, FTIR, SEM, AFM, cryo-SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC and elemental analysis techniques. Some important biomaterial properties of wound dressings such as wound fluid absorption, haemo-compatibility, bioactive assessment, gaseous/water/microbial permeability, mechanical properties, bio-adhesion, drug release, and histology of wound healing were also determined. Hydrogel wound dressings were found non-haemolytic, antioxidant and mucoadhesive in nature. Release of drug occurred through non-Fickian diffusion mechanism and release profile best fitted in Higuchi model.

The healing of wounds in aging skin is a challenging issue that has not been thoroughly studied. Composite hydrogels made from natural polysaccharides have shown potential as dressings for various types of wounds. In this study, we prepared a polysaccharide-based composite hydrogel to provide a new strategy for treating aging skin wounds.

Persistent inflammation is a major cause of diabetic wounds that are difficult to heal. This is manifested in diabetic wounds with excessive reactive oxygen clusters (ROS), advanced glycation end products (AGE) and other inflammatory factors, and difficulty in polarizing macrophages toward inhibiting inflammation. Berberine is a natural plant molecule that inhibits inflammation; however, its low solubility limits its biological function through cytosis.

This study explores the use of chicken egg white (EW), a rich source of natural proteins, to address challenges in wound healing management. Herein, a novel Zn-infused EW/GelMA (EW/Gel) hybrid hydrogel is developed, featuring an interpenetrating network (IPN) structure, where the first network consists of photo-cross-linked GelMA and the second network consists of Zn-infused EW (Zn-EW) through ion-protein binding. By optimizing the design and formulation, the resulting Zn-EW/Gel hydrogel exhibited enhanced mechanical stability and self-adhesive properties.

Unlabelled: Fibroblasts are considered a key player in the wound healing process. Although this cellular family is constituted by several distinct subtypes, dermal fibroblasts are crucial thanks to their ability to secrete pro-regenerative growth factors, extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and their immune and anti-inflammatory role. Sophorolipids (SL), sophorosides (SS) and glucolipids (G), mono-unsaturated (C18:1) or saturated (C18:0), glycolipids derived from microbial fermentation of wild type or engineered yeast , constitute a novel sustainable class of bio-based chemicals with interesting physicochemical characteristics, which allow them to form soft diverse structures from hydrogels to vesicles, micelles or complex coacervates with potential interest in skin regeneration applications.
