The rhizomes of Astilbe rivularis, commonly known as 'Thulo Okhati' are widely used in Nepal as tonic for uterine and menstrual disorders. In our preliminary study, the 70% MeOH extract of the rhizomes showed potent antioxidant activity. Hence, present study was aimed for the isolation of potent antioxidant constituents. Bergenin (1), 11-O-galloylbergenin (2), (+)-catechin (3), (-)-catechin (4), (-)-afzelechin (5), (-)-epiafzelechin (6) and 2-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-4-hydroxylbenzenacetonitrile (7) were isolated from the rhizomes. Structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods. All these isolated compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant activity by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. 11-O-Galloylbergenin (2), (+)-catechin (3), (-)-catechin (4), (-)-afzelechin (5) and (-)-epiafzelechin (6) showed potent antioxidant activity.

Background: Acute ischemia in the hind extremities is a dangerous disease that causes irreversible damage. Revascularization procedures are important to prevent muscle damage, but these treatments may induce additional damage, also known as ischemia-reperfusion injury. The role of free radicals as pivotal mediators of ischemia-reperfusion injury remains a prominent hypothesis.

This study investigated the antihyperglycemic potential of a hydroalcoholic extract from Syzygium malaccense leaves (E-SM) and isolate phenolic compounds with antioxidant and cytotoxic activities through a bioguided assay. The aim was to explore the therapeutic properties of S. malaccense in managing hyperglycemia and oxidative stress-related conditions.

Renal fibrosis is a hallmark of chronic kidney disease, characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins. Sulforaphane, a potent antioxidant found in cruciferous vegetables, has shown promise in targeting renal fibrosis. By inhibiting fibrotic pathways, such as TGF-β signaling, and promoting antioxidant defenses, sulforaphane may offer a novel therapeutic strategy for mitigating kidney damage and slowing disease progression.

In this study, the effects of ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis on the production of antioxidant and antiosteoporotic peptides derived from oysters were investigated. Results showed that ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis significantly enhanced the peptide content, free radical scavenging ability, and ferric reducing antioxidant power of total oyster protein hydrolysate (TOPH), with optimal results achieved at 200 W (TOPH-200). Correspondingly, ultrasound treatment at 200 W increased the exposure of hydrophobic regions, reduced α-helix content, and facilitated the generation of small molecular weight peptides in TOPH.

A series of ten topiramate-phenolic acid conjugates (T1-T10) were synthesized, and evaluated for their pancreatic lipase inhibitory and antioxidant potentials. The design of the compounds reflected the structural attributes extracted from robust QSAR models developed for predicting the pancreatic lipase inhibition potency. Conjugate T4 competitively inhibited pancreatic lipase with IC value of 8.
