This article presents the development of inferential control scheme based on Adaptive linear neural network (ADALINE) soft sensor for the control of fermentation process. The ethanol concentration of bioreactor is estimated from temperature profile of the process using soft sensor. The prediction accuracy of ADALINE is enhanced by retraining it with immediate past measurements. The ADALINE and retrained ADALINE are used along with PID and 2-DOF-PID leading to APID, A2PID, RAPID and RA2PID inferential controllers. Further the parameters of 2-DOF-PID are optimized using Non-dominated sorted genetic algorithm-II and used with retrained ADALINE soft sensor which leads to RAN2PID inferential controller. Simulation results demonstrate that performance of proposed RAN2PID controller is better in comparison to other designed controllers in terms of qualitative and quantitative performance indices.

Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) with various deformation properties based on phase transition were widely used as actuators and provided potential to fabricate functional surfaces with tunable microstructure. Herein, we demonstrate a strategy to fabricate dynamic micro wrinkles on LCE surfaces based on LC phase transition. Stable micron-sized surface wrinkles on the anthracene-containing LCE film (AnLCE) are fabricated by ultraviolet exposure induced gradient cross-linking and subsequently stretching-releasing (UV-SR).

Purpose: Photon counting detectors offer promising advancements in computed tomography (CT) imaging by enabling the quantification and three-dimensional imaging of contrast agents and tissue types through simultaneous multi-energy projections from broad X-ray spectra. However, the accuracy of these decomposition methods hinges on precise composite spectral attenuation values that one must reconstruct from spectral micro-CT. Errors in such estimations could be due to effects such as beam hardening, object scatter, or detector sensor-related spectral distortions such as fluorescence.

Soft sensors integrated or attached to robots or human bodies enable rapid and accurate estimation of the physical states of the target systems, including position, orientation, and force. While the use of a number of sensors enhances precision and reliability in estimation, it may constrain the movement of the target system or make the entire system complex and bulky.
