Characterization of neutron energy spectrum along with the determination of sub-cadmium to epithermal neutron flux ratio (f) and the epithermal neutron flux shape factor (α) has been carried out at pneumatic fast transfer system (PFTS) of KAMINI reactor. The facility has been extensively used for the neutron activation analysis (NAA) studies using both k-NAA and relative method. This paper describes the multi-foil activation method to determine the reaction rates followed by the generation of computed guess spectrum to unfold the neutron spectrum using least square minimization approach.

A Manufacturing Technique for Binary Clathrate Hydrates for Cold and Very Cold Neutron Production.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), 71 Avenue des Martyrs, 38042 Grenoble Cedex 9, France.

Intense sources of very cold neutrons (VCNs) would be beneficial for various neutron scattering techniques and low-energy particle physics experiments. Binary clathrate hydrates hosting deuterated tetrahydrofuran (THF-d) and dioxygen show promise as potential moderators for such sources due to a rich spectrum of localized low-energy excitations of the encaged guest molecules. In this article, we present a reliable manufacturing technique for such hydrates.

Safe storage of fresh and irradiated fuel is ensured by solving the problem of photon emission protection. The neutron component is usually not taken into account due to its low intensity. However, for the new VVER-1200 fuel, the neutron component consideration is a mandatory procedure for radiation safety.

Elucidation of the Off-Center Displaced Mo in Octahedral Coordination in BaMoO.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

Radiation Science & Technology Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology, Mekelweg 15, Delft 2629JB, The Netherlands.

The detailed crystal structure as well as the heat capacity at low temperature and standard entropy of BaMoO are reported for the first time. High-resolution X-ray and neutron diffraction were employed to reveal the structural features of this compound. BaMoO has a six-coordinated Mo and a strongly negative excess volume with respect to the binary oxides.
