Genetic analysis of L 1758 (Mollusca, Bivalvia, Pinnidae) in the Northwest Cabo Verde Islands (Central-East Atlantic).

The rough pen shell Linnaeus, 1758 (family Pinnidae) is a mollusc with an Atlantic-Mediterranean distribution, typically inhabiting coarse sandy substrates. Habitat degradation is considered the primary cause of population decline, leading to the designation 'Vulnerable' in certain regions. In this study, we conducted a genetic analysis of populations of from Cabo Verde and compared them with populations from the Mediterranean and Macaronesia.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) presents a substantial challenge due to its complex nature, limited effective treatment options, and modest benefits from current therapies in slowing disease progression. This study explores the potential of intranasal (IN) delivery to enhance the CNS delivery of riluzole (RLZ), a standard ALS treatment which is subject to blood-brain barrier efflux mechanisms. Additionally, the impact of elacridar (ELC), an efflux pump inhibitor, on IN RLZ CNS bioavailability was examined.

Over 15 000 species of fishes are found globally in the marine environment and DNA barcodes are used extensively to describe, catalogue, understand and manage this diversity. The dataset outlined here represents a DNA barcode reference library of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene (COI) from 9767 voucher specimens (representing at least 2220 species and 288 families) of marine fishes. This publicly available dataset in the Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD) represents 17 years (2005-2022) of barcoding of marine fishes identified from Australian territorial waters.

Introduction: Endoscopic antireflux therapy has shown promising potential in the treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, there is currently no universally accepted standard for endoscopic surgery. Therefore, we introduced antireflux mucosal valvuloplasty (ARMV), an innovative endoscopic treatment for GERD.

V-ATPases are ubiquitous and evolutionarily conserved rotatory proton pumps, which are crucial for maintaining various biological functions. Previous investigations have shown that a V-ATPase is present in the support cells of moth trichoid sensilla and influences their olfactory sensory neuron performance. Generally, V-ATPases are thought to regulate the pH value within the sensillum lymph, and aid K homeostasis within the sensillum.
