Three new isobenzofurans (1-3), together with four known phenylpropanoids (4-7) were isolated from the roots of Nicotiana tabacum. Their structures were determined by means of HRESIMS and extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies. Compounds 1-6 were tested for their anti-tobacco mosaic virus (anti-TMV) activities and cytotoxicity activities. The results showed that compounds 5 and 6 exhibited high anti-TMV activities with inhibition rates of 35.1 and 33.4%, respectively. The cytotoxicities of compounds 1-7 against five human tumor cell lines (NB4, A549, SHSY5Y, PC3 were also tested. Compounds 1-7 showed weak inhibitory activities against some tested human tumor cell lines with IC values in the range of 3.8-9.6 μM.

This study explores the design, synthesis, and evaluation of a novel series of isobenzofuran-based imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole derivatives, targeting their antimicrobial and anticancer properties. These compounds integrate the pharmacologically significant 1,3,4-thiadiazole and imidazole moieties, which are known for their potential in drug development, although imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole-based drugs are not yet available on the market. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop novel derivatives that could serve as promising candidates for future therapeutic applications.

Multifunctional nanomaterials with potential applications in both bioimaging and photodynamic-sonodynamic therapy have great advantages in cancer theranostic, but the design and preparation of "all-in-one" type of multifunctional nanomaterials with single component remains challenging. Herein the "all-in-one" type of Mn-PpIX (Protoporphyrin IX) coordination polymers (MnPPs) was reported as efficient nano-photo/sonosensitizers. The MnPPs had an average size of ∼ 110 nm.

Article Synopsis
  • * The structures of these compounds were determined using advanced techniques like 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and HRESIMS, with their absolute configurations confirmed by ECD calculations.
  • * The newly identified compounds showed significant inhibition of -glucosidase activity, with some being more effective than the established drug acarbose, suggesting potential as future hypoglycemic treatments.

3-heptylidene-4,6-dimethoxy-3-isobenzofuran-1-one (Phthalide ) is the precursor of three resorcinol lipids that have been described as potential chemotherapeutic agents and capable of potentiating the effects of cyclophosphamide. In this study, we evaluated the genotoxic potential, cell-killing potential, and interactions with cyclophosphamide and cisplatin of phthalide . Twelve groups were created from 120 mice: Negative Control, cyclophosphamide (100 mg/kg), cisplatin (6 mg/kg), Phthalide (5, 10 and 20 mg/kg), and associations of with cyclophosphamide and with cisplatin.

The sodium glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor tofogliflozin is a glucose-lowering drug that causes the excretion of surplus glucose by inhibiting SGLT2. Because of tofogliflozin's osmotic diuresis mechanism, patients' serum electrolytes, body fluid levels, and cardiac function must be monitored. We retrospectively analyzed the cases of 64 elderly Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who received tofogliflozin for 3 months.
