Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and decrease plasma low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. They are well tolerated, and because of their LDL-C-lowering effect, they are utilized to decrease the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. However, statins have pleiotropic effects, including immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer.

Rhinophyma is characterized by progressive enlargement of the nasal skin, which is considered to be an advanced stage of phymatous rosacea. Esthetic disfigurement makes surgical treatment necessary for this condition. Hypertrophic scars are the consequence of alterations in the skin's healing process following surgical interventions.
