Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and decrease plasma low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. They are well tolerated, and because of their LDL-C-lowering effect, they are utilized to decrease the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. However, statins have pleiotropic effects, including immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer.

Rhinophyma is characterized by progressive enlargement of the nasal skin, which is considered to be an advanced stage of phymatous rosacea. Esthetic disfigurement makes surgical treatment necessary for this condition. Hypertrophic scars are the consequence of alterations in the skin's healing process following surgical interventions.

Rhinophyma affects predominantly the Caucasian population and is rare in those with Fitzpatrick skin type IV-VI. Diagnosis is based on clinical evaluation. Prominent features include abnormal coloration and texture of skin, impaired vascularity, irregular nodular exophytic growth and telangiectasia.
