Published: March 2017

The reaction of AgO with l-valine (l-Hval, CHNO) in a 1:2 molar ratio in water, followed by vapour diffusion, afforded a coordination polymer of the title compound, [Ag(CHNO)] , with N-Ag-O repeat units, which is classified as a type III silver(I) complex with amino acid ligands. The asymmetric unit consists of two independent units of [Ag(l-val)]. In the crystal, the polymeric chains run along [101], and neighbouring chains are linked a weak Ag⋯Ag inter-action and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The title complex exhibited anti-microbial activity against selected bacteria (, , and ).

Cytochromes P450 (CYP) form one of the largest enzyme superfamilies on Earth, with similar structural fold but biological functions varying from synthesis of physiologically essential compounds to metabolism of myriad xenobiotics. Here we determined the crystal structures of Coryphaenoides armatus and human sterol 14α-demethylases (CYP51s). Both structures reveal elements that imply elevated conformational flexibility, uncovering molecular basis for faster catalytic rates, lower substrate selectivity, and resistance to inhibition.

Circularly Polarized Luminescence in Cellulose-Based Assemblies: Synthesis, Regulation, and Application.

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University, Tianjin, 300072, China.

Currently, circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has drawn wide interest in 3D display, information storage, and optical sensing. However, traditional synthetic paths are often accompanied by low chiral optical intensity and complex processes. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), with the properties of liquid crystals, can spontaneously arrange into the left-handed layered nanofilm, which enables them candidates in the construction of CPL materials.

Infrared nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal materials exert a crucial role in laser technology, which is extensively utilized in the fields of medical laser, long-distance laser communication, infrared laser guidance, etc. Currently, the commercially available infrared NLO crystals are diamond-like structural crystals AgGaQ (Q = S, Se) and ZnGeP. However, their applications are significantly limited owing to their inherent drawbacks, such as low laser damage thresholds and narrow band gaps.

Mn-rich disordered rocksalt materials with Li-excess (DRX) materials have emerged as a promising class of earth-abundant and energy-dense next-generation cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Recently, an electrochemical transformation to a spinel-like "δ" phase has been reported in Mn-rich DRX materials, with improved capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability compared with previous DRX compositions. However, this transformation unfolds slowly over the course of cycling, complicating the development and understanding of these materials.

AlphaFold-guided molecular replacement for solving challenging crystal structures.

Acta Crystallogr D Struct Biol

January 2025

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Columbia University, New York, NY 10032, USA.

Molecular replacement (MR) is highly effective for biomolecular crystal structure determination, increasingly so as the database of known structures has increased. For candidates without recognizable similarity to known structures, however, crystal structure analyses have nearly always required experiments for de novo phase evaluation. Now, with the unprecedented accuracy of AlphaFold predictions of protein structures from amino-acid sequences, an appreciable expansion of the reach of MR for proteins is realized.
