This article addresses estimation in regression models for longitudinally-collected functional covariates (time-varying predictor curves) with a longitudinal scaler outcome. The framework consists of estimating a time-varying coefficient function that is modeled as a linear combination of time-invariant functions with time-varying coefficients. The model uses extrinsic information to inform the structure of the penalty, while the estimation procedure exploits the equivalence between penalized least squares estimation and a linear mixed model representation. The process is empirically evaluated with several simulations and it is applied to analyze the neurocognitive impairment of HIV patients and its association with longitudinally-collected magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) curves.

Self-compassion has been defined as being open to one's suffering, not avoiding or disconnecting from it, coupled with the kind and caring motivation to alleviate one's suffering. There is increasing evidence that self-compassion might function as a buffer against the negative mental health effects of experiencing work-stressors. However, while this moderating role of self-compassion has been demonstrated when measures of subjective stress are used, different studies that use measures of more objective potential stressors failed to demonstrate a moderating role of self-compassion.

Lewy body (LB) pathology is present as a co-pathology in approximately 50% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia patients and may even represent the main neuropathologic substrate in a subset of patients with amnestic impairments. However, the degree to which LB pathology affects the neurodegenerative course and clinical phenotype in amnestic patients is not well understood. Recently developed α-synuclein seed amplification assays (αSyn-SAAs) provide a unique opportunity for further investigating the complex interplay between AD and LB pathology in shaping heterogeneous regional neurodegeneration patterns and clinical trajectories among amnestic patients.
