Clinical proteomics has led to the identification of a substantial number of disease-associated peptides and protein fragments in several conditions such as cancer, kidney, or cardiovascular diseases. In silico prediction tools that can facilitate linking of identified peptide biomarkers to predicted protease activity might therefore significantly contribute to the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms of these diseases. Proteasix is an open-source, peptide-centric tool that can be used to predict in silico the proteases involved in naturally occurring peptide generation. From an input peptide list, Proteasix allows for automatic cleavage site reconstruction and protease associations.

Recovery of the butterfat in waste ice cream may be an opportunity to mitigate food and economic loss. Previous efforts to recover such fat have succeeded in producing a fat-enriched fraction but have not succeeded in demulsifying the fat. In the present study, a method involving a sequence of emulsion-breaking steps is shown to be effective for releasing a majority of the fat from waste ice cream as free, unemulsified oil.

Proteomics studies suggest that PA alters levels of many proteins, some of which may function as molecules in the biological processes underlying frailty. However, these studies have focused on structured exercise programs or cross-sectional PA-protein associations.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) encompasses a spectrum of liver conditions, ranging from hepatic steatosis to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and severe outcomes such as cirrhosis or cancer. The progression from hepatic steatosis to fibrosis involves significant extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, characterized by increased collagen deposition and cross-linking of ECM proteins, causing increased tissue stiffness and altered MMP expression patterns. Dysregulated MMP expression and extracellular acidosis are key contributors to NAFLD progression.

Insect prophenoloxidases (proPO) are activated during immune responses by a proPO activating protease (PAP) in the presence of a high molecular weight cofactor assembled from serine protease homologs (SPH) that lack proteolytic activity. PAPs and the SPHs have a similar architecture, with an amino-terminal clip domain and a carboxyl-terminal protease domain. The SPHs belong to CLIPA subfamily of SP-related proteins.

The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in 777 million confirmed cases and over 7 million deaths worldwide, with insufficient treatment options. Innumerable efforts are being made around the world for faster identification of therapeutic agents to treat the deadly disease. Post Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection or COVID-19 (PASC), also called Long COVID, is still being understood and lacks treatment options as well.
