Gated radionuclide angiography and myocardial perfusion imaging were developed in the United States and Europe in the 1970's and soon adopted in Canadian centers. Much of the early development of nuclear cardiology in Canada was in Toronto, Ontario and was quickly followed by new programs across the country. Clinical research in Canada contributed to the further development of nuclear cardiology and cardiac PET.

The authors developed a nonincentivized web-based anonymous survey that captured demographic and practice data regarding continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) use in the hospital. Here we review the work of Dan S. Tawfik, one of the pioneers of this area, highlighting his seminal contributions in diverse fields such as protein design, high throughput screening, protein stability, fundamental enzyme-catalyzed reactions and promiscuity, that underpin biology and the origins of life.
