Voluntary body temperature selection of unrestrained Lacerta viridis revealed consistant photoperiod entrained diel patterns. Each daily cycle was characterized by an elevation in body temperature (T ) to a high level plateau which declined at the onset of scotophase to a low level; both of which were maintained within narrow ranges.Under natural photoperiod in fall, lizards responded to shorter days by sinking low level T 's and expanding the duration of these low levels until no rhythmicity was shown. Subsequent exposure to long day, LD 16:8, induced self-arousal and a slightly altered diel T selection with significantly higher T 's being chosen at both the elevated and lower daily levels. Changes in the relations of diel T selection due to shift in photoperiod, suggest that photoperiod acts as a seasonal indicator for thermal adaptation.

Novel Ce1-xMnxVO4 catalysts prepared via modified hydrothermal synthesis were used in selective catalytic reduction of NO using NH3 (NH3-SCR). The Ce1-xMnxVO4 catalysts displayed optimum NO removal efficiency at 250 oC. Physicochemical properties including crystal type, morphology, particle size, elemental composition, BET surface area, chemical bond, and valence state were studied by XRD, TEM, EDS, N2 adsorption-desorption, Raman spectroscopy, and XPS.

Thermoelectric (TE) performance in materials is often constrained by the strong coupling between carrier and phonon transport, necessitating trade-offs between electrical and thermal properties that limit improvements in the figure of merit (). Herein, a novel strategy is proposed to achieve simultaneous energy filtering and enhanced phonon scattering, effectively optimizing the TE properties of CoSb-based skutterudites. By introducing CuTe nanoprecipitates into the YbCoSb matrix, interfacial barriers are formed, which selectively filter low-energy charge carriers, significantly improving the Seebeck coefficient while maintaining high carrier mobility.

There are evidence showing that meteorological factors, such as temperature and humidity, have critical effects on transmission of some infectious diseases, while quantifying the influence is challenging. In this study we develop a learning-explaining framework to discover the particular dependence of transmission mechanisms on meteorological factors based on multiple source data. The incidence rate based on the epidemic data and epidemic model is theoretically identified, and meanwhile the practical discovery of particular formula is feasible through deep neural networks (DNN), symbolic regression (SR) and sparse identification of nonlinear dynamics (SINDy).

Soilborne diseases are persistent problems in soybean production. Long-term crop rotation can contribute to soilborne disease management. However, the response of soilborne pathogens to crop rotation is inconsistent, and rotation efficacy is highly variable.

During winter months, there is increased pressure on health care systems in temperature climates due to seasonal increases in respiratory illnesses. Providing real-time short-term forecasts of the demand for health care services helps managers plan their services. During the Winter of 2022-23 we piloted a new forecasting pipeline, using existing surveillance indicators which are sensitive to increases in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
