Can the MIRACLE Score Be Used in the Prehospital Environment and Is It Useful? An Observational Study.

Air Med J

March 2024

Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, Lincoln, United Kingdom; Department of Research and Education in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine and Major Trauma, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham, United Kingdom; Emergency Department, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham, United Kingdom. Electronic address:

Objective: The MIRACLE score has been developed for use in a primary percutaneous coronary intervention center. It is unclear if it is feasible in the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) setting.

Methods: The computerized system at 1 UK HEMS was interrogated between December 1, 2020, and May 1, 2022, for the components of the MIRACLE score (recorded contemporaneously) plus demographics and outcomes in all post-return of spontaneous circulation patients conveyed to the hospital.

Neonicotinoids are effective insecticides with specificity for invertebrate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Neonicotinoids are chemically stable and tend to remain in the environment for long so concerns about their neurotoxicity in humans do nothing but increase. Herein, we evaluated the chronic toxic effects of acetamiprid- and imidacloprid-based insecticides over the differentiation of human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, which were exposed to these insecticides at a concentration range similar to that applied to crop fields (0.

Sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 2 plays a dual role depending on the stage of cell differentiation in renal epithelial cells.

Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Farmacia y Bioquímica, Cátedra de Biología Celular y Molecular, Buenos Aires, Argentina; CONICET - Universidad de Buenos Aires, Instituto de Química y Fisicoquímica Biológicas "Profesor Dr. Alejandro C. Paladini" (IQUIFIB), Buenos Aires, Argentina. Electronic address:

Epithelial renal cells have the ability to adopt different cellular phenotypes through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET). These processes are increasingly recognized as important repair factors following acute renal tubular injury. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive sphingolipid with impact on proliferation, growth, migration, and differentiation which has significant implication in various diseases including cancer and kidney fibrosis.

A systematic review of electrocardiographic changes in healthy high-altitude populations.

Trends Cardiovasc Med

July 2023

Department of Medicine, Kingston Health Sciences Center, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Electronic address:

High-altitude environments are characterized by decreased atmospheric pressures at which individuals exhibit a reduced volume of maximal oxygen uptake and arterial partial pressure of oxygen, both of which lead to hypobaric hypoxia. While acute exposure may temporarily offset cardiovascular homeostasis in sea-level residents, native highlanders have become accustomed to these high-altitude conditions and often exhibit variations in normal ECG parameters. As part of the "Altitude Non-differentiated ECG Study" (ANDES) project, this paper aims to systematically review the available literature regarding ECG changes in healthy highlander populations.

Although clozapine is a highly efficacious schizophrenia treatment, it is under-prescribed due to the risk of idiosyncratic drug-induced agranulocytosis (IDIAG). Clinical data indicate that most patients starting clozapine experience a transient immune response early in treatment and a similar response has been observed in clozapine-treated rats, but the mechanism by which clozapine triggers this transient inflammation remains unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to characterize the role of inflammasome activation during the early immune response to clozapine using in vitro and in vivo models.
