A highly purified vegetalizing factor induces endoderm preferentially in amphibian gastrula ectoderm. After combination of this factor with less pure fractions, a high percentage of trunks and tails with notochord and somites are induced. The induction of these mesodermal tissues depends on secondary factors which may act on plasma membrane receptors of the target cells. The secondary factors are probably proteins as they are inactivated by trypsin or cellulose-bound proteinase K. They are not inactivated by thioglycolic acid. The implication of these findings for tissue determination and differentiation in normal development in relation to the anlageplan for endoderm and mesodermal tissues is discussed.

Emerging evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs), a class of non-coding RNAs, play a critical role in the progression of several cancers, including osteosarcoma (OS). In this study, we focused on a specific circRNA, hsa_circ_0002005, derived from the mesoderm-induced early response 1 family member 2 (MIER2) gene. We determined the expression levels of hsa_circ_0002005 in OS samples through the use of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Retinal pathological angiogenesis (PA) is a common hallmark in proliferative retinopathies, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The mechanisms underlying PA is complex and incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the role of extracellular matrix (ECM) protein biglycan (BGN) in PA using an oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse model, along with hypoxia (1% O) conditions for incubating pericytes and endothelial cells in vitro.

Vascular regeneration plays a vital role in tissue repair yet is drastically impaired in those with a spinal cord injury (SCI). Pericytes are of great significance as they are entwined with vessel-specific endothelial cells and actively contribute to maintaining the spinal cord's vascular network. Within the neurovascular unit (NVU), subtypes of pericytes characterized by various markers such as PDGFR-β, Desmin, CD146, and NG-2 are involved in vascular regeneration in SCI repair.

Niches are often found in specific positions in tissues relative to the stem cells they support. Consistency of niche position suggests that placement is important for niche function. However, the complexity of most niches has precluded a thorough understanding of how their proper placement is established.

Molecular and spatial analysis of tertiary lymphoid structures in Sjogren's syndrome.

Rheumatology Research Group, Department of Inflammation and Ageing, College of Medicine & Health, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK.

Tertiary lymphoid structures play important roles in autoimmune and non-autoimmune conditions. While many of the molecular mechanisms involved in tertiary lymphoid structure formation have been identified, the cellular sources and temporal and spatial relationship remain unknown. Here we use combine single-cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics of minor salivary glands of patients with Sjogren's disease and Sicca Syndrome, with ex-vivo functional studies to construct a cellular and spatial map of key components involved in the formation and function of tertiary lymphoid structures.
