Background: For esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), universally accepted pathological criteria for classification by differentiation degree are lacking. Tumor budding, single-cell invasion, and nuclear grade, recognized as prognostic factors in other carcinomas, have rarely been investigated for their correlation with differentiation and prognosis in ESCC. This study aims to determine if pathological findings can predict differentiation degree and prognosis in ESCC.

Objective: To evaluate the detectability of herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV-1, 2) antigens in the esophageal mucosa in esophageal cancer.
Methods: A cross-sectional pilot study with a control group was conducted from December 2022 to May 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: the main group with verified esophageal cancer and the control group without esophageal cancer based on the histological report.

An 80-year-old woman with a history of endoscopic balloon dilation for esophageal stricture caused by accidental ingestion of caustic soda during infancy presented with dysphagia. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 10-cm-long, highly white, elevated lesion with a feathered appearance. This lesion was determined to be the cause of dysphagia and was completely resected via endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Atopic diseases such as Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) often progress into fibrosis (FS-EoE), compromising organ function with limited targeted treatment options. Mechanistic understanding of FS-EoE progression is confounded by the lack of preclinical models and the heavy focus of research on eosinophils themselves. We found that macrophage accumulation precedes esophageal fibrosis in FS-EoE patients.
