In this study, a sensitive colorimetric method for the detection of copper ion (Cu) was developed based on controlling the peroxidase-like activity of (gold core)@(ultrathin platinum shell) nanocatalysts (Au@Pt-NCs). It was found that D-penicillamine can effectively inhibit the activity of Au@Pt-NCs. After being incubated with Cu, D-penicillamine lost inhibition toward the catalytic ability of Au@Pt-NCs. Based on the above interaction, a colorimetric detection of Cu was develop by measuring the colorimetric signal variation of the HO-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) reaction. This method exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity toward Cu over a panel of other metal ions. The detection limit of this method was 3.7 nM and the linear range was 20 - 300 nM. Moreover, 20 nM Cu can be distinguished directly by the naked eye. Furthermore, this method was applied to the analysis of water samples with good accuracy. These results demonstrated the excellent application potential of the method.

Noble metal nanoparticles have attracted tremendous attention as the promising signal reporters for catalytic-colorimetric lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA). However, it remains great challenges for improving their stability and catalytic activity. Herein, first, a kind of porphyrinic based metal-organic framework (MOF) was used as a carrier for loading platinum (Pt) nanoparticles to avoid its aggregation.

A Label-Free Colorimetric Aptasensor for Flavokavain B Detection.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of TCM Evaluation and Translational Research, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing 211198, China.

Flavokavain B (FKB), a hepatotoxic chalcone from (kava), has raised safety concerns due to its role in disrupting redox homeostasis and inducing apoptosis in hepatocytes. Conventional chromatographic methods for FKB detection, while sensitive, are costly and impractical for field applications. In this work, DNA aptamers were selected using the library-immobilized method and high-throughput sequencing.

College of Food Science and Engineering, Qingdao Agricultural University, Qingdao, Shandong Province 266109, China. Electronic address:

A pH responsive composite film was developed by incorporating cyanidin (CY) and egg white lysozyme fibril into konjac glucomannan (KGM) and xanthan gum (XG) matrix to monitor the chicken breast freshness in this work. The physicochemical properties of the films, especially pH sensitivity, evaluated by color difference and visual color change under different pH values, were first explored. The freshness changes of chicken breast sealed with the composite films were also analyzed.

Diabetes is a disorder attributed to impaired production or utilization of insulin and requires rapid precise monitoring of glucose levels. The fabrication of nanotechnology-based non-invasive biosensors for glucose detection holds significant promise for improved diabetes care and point-of-care diagnostics. The study demonstrates a novel molecularly imprinted polymers (ADMIPs) based sensitive biosensor for glucose estimation in saliva using three distinct sensing platforms -cotton swab, paper strip and polymeric film by colorimetric assay.

Polydiacetylenes (PDAs) are conjugated polymers that are well known for their colorimetric transition from blue to red with the application of energetic stimulus. Sensing platforms based on polymerized diacetylene surfactant vesicles and other structures have been widely demonstrated for various colorimetric biosensing applications. Although less studied and utilized, the transition also results in a change from a non-fluorescent to a highly fluorescent state, making polydiacetylenes useful for both colorimetric and fluorogenic sensing applications.
