Unlabelled: The aim of this literature review was to develop clinical guidelines for the prevention and control of needle-related pain in newborn infants. The guidelines were developed by the Italian Society of Neonatology, using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach, based on the assessment of 232 papers published between 1986 and 2015. The quality of the evidence was high or moderate for some behavioural and nonpharmacological interventions.

Conclusion: There was sufficient evidence to strongly support the use of nonpharmacological interventions for common needle-related procedures in newborn infants. Combined interventions seemed to be more effective in relieving procedural pain.

Therapeutic hypothermia in preterm infants under 36 weeks: Case series on outcomes and brain MRI findings.

Eur J Pediatr

January 2025

Neonatology Department. Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Center for Maternal Fetal and Neonatal Medicine. Neonatal Brain Group, Universitat de Barcelona. Hospital Clínic, Universitat de Barcelona. BCNatal - Barcelona, Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu, Barcelona, Spain.

Purpose: Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a significant cause of neonatal brain injury. Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the standard treatment for term neonates, but its safety and efficacy in neonates < 36 weeks gestational age (GA) remains unclear. This case series aimed to evaluate the outcomes of preterm infants with HIE treated with TH.

Introduction: Childhood stunting, a major public health concern in many developing countries, is associated with impaired physical and cognitive development, increased risk of infectious diseases, and long-term adverse health and economic consequences. Mozambique is among the countries with the highest stunting rates in sub-Saharan Africa. This study aims to examine the spatial variation and identify the predictors of stunting among children under the age of five years in Mozambique.

Geo-spatial analysis of high-risk fertility behaviors and child stunting in Ethiopia.

Front Public Health

January 2025

Department of Statistics, College of Science, Aksum University, Aksum, Ethiopia.

Background: The process of childbirth involves significant risks, particularly when certain high-risk fertility behaviors (HRFBs) are observed. HRFB of birth includes maternal age below 18 years or above 34 years at the time of childbirth, having a child born after a short birth interval (24 months), and having a high parity (more than three children). The majority of child stunting cases were linked to high-risk reproductive practices.
