Physical exercise is one of the most effective methods to help prevent cardiovascular (CV) disease and to promote CV health. Aerobic and anaerobic exercises are two types of exercise that differ based on the intensity, interval and types of muscle fibers incorporated. In this article, we aim to further elaborate on these two categories of physical exercise and to help decipher which provides the most effective means of promoting CV health.

Polycyclic aromatic compounds and petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) are hazardous pollutants and seriously threaten the environment and human health. However, native microbial communities can adapt to these toxic pollutants, utilize these compounds as a carbon source, and eventually evolve to degrade these toxic contaminants. With this in mind, we isolated 26 bacterial strains from various environmental soil samples.

Printing and dyeing wastewater (PDW) is characterized by various pollutants, making it one of the most difficult industrial wastewaters to treat and poses a serious threat to the natural environment and public health. This study investigated the use of an anaerobic-aerobic system combined with bioaugmentation using Ochrobactrum anthropi S1 to treat PDW. The results indicated that after three rounds of inoculation, Ochrobactrum anthropi S1 successfully colonized the system, achieving final removal efficiencies of reactive black 5, Cr(Ⅵ), COD, and ammonia nitrogen of 95 %, 65 %, 90 %, and 85 %, respectively.

Frequent changes in altitude and oxygen levels limit the practical application of traditionally derived exercise thresholds or training zones based on heart rate (HR) or blood lactate concentration (bLa). We investigated the transferability of a muscle oxygenation (SmO)-based intensity prescription between different hypoxic conditions to assess the suitability of real-time SmO measurements for ski-mountaineering (SKIMO) athletes during submaximal endurance exercise. A group of 15 well-trained male SKIMO athletes performed a graded-intensity run test in normoxia (87 m ASL, FiO = 20.

Hypoxia, characterized by inadequate tissue oxygenation, may result in tissue damage and organ failure if not addressed. Current detection approaches frequently prove insufficient, depending on symptoms and rudimentary metrics such as tissue oxygenation, which fail to comprehensively identify the onset of hypoxia. The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) has recognized sweat lactate as a possible marker for the early identification of decubitus ulcers, nevertheless, neither sweat lactate nor oxygenation independently provides an appropriate diagnosis of hypoxia.
