The sub-basal nerve plexus (SNP) of the cornea provides the possibility of in vivo and non-invasive examination of peripheral nerve structures by corneal confocal microscopy (CCM). Thus morphological alterations of the SNP can be directly detected and quantified. A single CCM image is insufficient for a well-founded diagnosis because of the inhomogeneous distribution of the nerve fibers; therefore, there is a demand for techniques for large area imaging of the SNP. This article provides an overview of published approaches to the problem. Current developmental work at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the University of Rostock Eye Clinic is expected to lead to a simplified handling of the technology and a further improvement in the image quality.

Background This prospective clinical study aims to compare the effectiveness of lower-dose dexamethasone and magnesium sulfate as adjuvants to bupivacaine in ultrasound-guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block for distal upper limb surgery. Materials and methods Ninety patients, aged 18 to 65 years, with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status scores of I or II who underwent distal upper limb surgeries, including the arm, elbow, forearm, and hand surgery under infraclavicular brachial plexus block, were included in the study. The block was performed under ultrasound guidance.

: The aim of this study was to investigate retinal and choroidal microvascular changes in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) treated with long-term anti-TNF therapy and NSAIDs and in healthy control subjects using optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCT-A). : A total of 162 eyes from 81 participants were included: 52 eyes from 26 axSpA patients treated with anti-TNF therapy (≥5 years), 44 eyes from 22 axSpA patients treated with NSAIDs, and 66 eyes from 33 healthy control subjects. SS-OCT-A imaging was used to assess retinal thickness, ganglion cell layer thickness, retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and the vessel densities of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), and choriocapillaris (CC).

Background: To investigate the retinochoroidal and optic nerve head (ONH) microstructural and microvascular age-related changes in healthy subjects by examining the ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness (GC-IPLT), vessel density (VD), and their ratio.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 203 subjects (20-69 years old) were divided into five age groups: 20-29 (G1), 30-39 (G2), 40-49 (G3), 50-59 (G4), and 60-69 (G5) (G5). Following a thorough ophthalmological examination, enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) scanning was performed along with OCT angiography (OCTA) in a 6 × 6 mm scanning area.

Background: Patients with complex hand injuries experience extreme pain and frequently witness prolonged preoperative waiting period, which intensifies their agony, especially during wound dressing and debridement, further intensifying pain of acute trauma. Hence, there is a need to study utility of continuous peripheral nerve block in settings of acute trauma emergencies. We hypothesized that, as compared with intravenous systemic analgesics, continuous brachial plexus block would provide superior analgesia in these patients.
