Cassia grandis is used for the treatment of skin disorders, back pain, aches, etc. in Vietnamese traditional medicine. In this paper, phytochemicals of the leaves were investigated. A new naphthalene derivative (1, cassgranon D) and, seven known compounds rutin (2), afzelin (3), quercitrin (4), epicatechin (5), (-)-epiafzelechin (6), isoquercitrin (7) and aloe emodin (8) were isolated from the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts. Their structures were elucidated by spectral evidences (UV, IR, MS, H, C, DEPT, HSQC and HMBC NMR), as well as by comparing with published data.

A new Donor-Acceptor type pyrazinacene derivative (1) featuring strong ICT was synthesized by linking electron-donating triphenylamine (TPA) and electron-accepting CN groups via a pyrazinacene core. The compound exhibits a dramatic color change from greenish blue to red-violet upon selective recognition of naphthalene (3) to form a 1:1 co-crystal (1•3). This color change is induced by intermolecular CT between pyrazinacene and naphthalene's aromatic moieties, driven by π-hole···π interactions.

Background/objectives: Vitamin K-dependent proteins (VKDPs) all commonly possess specially modified γ-carboxyglutamic acid residues created in a vitamin K-dependent manner. Several liver-derived coagulation factors are well characterised VKDPs. However, much less is known about extrahepatic VKDPs, which are more diverse in their molecular structures and functions, and some of which have been implicated in inflammatory disorders.

Three new naphthalene derivatives, strepthalenes A-C (1-3), and the known analogue (S)-DNPA (4), together with six previously reported anthraquinones (5-10), were isolated from the marine-derived Streptomyces sp. OUCMDZ-4182. Their structures were elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analysis and quantum chemical calculations.

Purpose: Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO), the most common extrathyroidal manifestation of Graves' disease, is disabling and disfiguring. Recent studies have shown that statins have a protective effect on individuals with GO. Statins were reported to trigger ferroptosis in some disorders, but little is known about whether statins protect against GO via ferroptosis.

A novel bacterium, designated 19SA41, was isolated from the air of the Icelandic volcanic island Surtsey. Cells of strain 19SA41 are Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile rods and form pale yellow-pigmented colonies. The strain grows at 4-30 °C (optimum, 22 °C), at pH 6-10 (optimum, pH 7.
