Oxazolidinones are a novel class of synthetic antibacterial agents that inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Here, we synthesized and tested a series of oxazolidinone compounds containing cyclic amidrazone. Among these compounds, we further investigated the antibacterial activities of LCB01-0648 against drug-susceptible or resistant Gram-positive cocci in comparison with those of six reference compounds. LCB01-0648 showed the most potent antimicrobial activities against clinically isolated Gram-positive bacteria. Against the methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MRCNS) isolates, LCB01-0648 showed the lowest MICs (0.5 mg/L) among the tested compounds. In addition, LCB01-0648 had the lowest minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against the four linezolid-resistant (LRSA) strains (range 2-4 mg/L). The results of the time-kill studies demonstrated that LCB01-0648 at a concentration 8× the (MIC) showed bactericidal activity against methicillin-susceptible MSSA or MRSA, but showed a bacteriostatic effect against LRSA. These results indicate that LCB01-0648 could be a good antibacterial candidate against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-positive cocci.

Poor oral health is an independent risk factor for upper-aerodigestive tract cancers, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC); thus, good oral health may reduce the risk of ESCC. We previously reported that high expression of Toll-like receptor (TLR) 6, which recognizes peptidoglycan (PGN) from Gram-positive bacteria correlates with a good prognosis after esophagectomy for ESCC. Most beneficial bacteria in the mouth are Gram-positive.

In this study, we conducted a thorough analysis of (RT) and (COF) extracts with varying polarities using LC-MS chemical profiling and biological tests (antioxidant, antimicrobial, enzyme inhibition, and cytotoxic effects). The highest level of total phenolic content in the ethanol extract of RT with 75.82 mg GAE/g, followed by the infusions of RT (65.

Purpose Hepatic abscesses remain a significant clinical challenge due to high morbidity and mortality. This research aims to examine the etiological spectrum, management approaches, clinical features, and results in hepatic abscesses in a tertiary care facility in northern India, emphasizing the distinctions among pyogenic liver abscesses (PLAs) and amoebic liver abscesses (ALAs). Methods This retrospective study was done at GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, analyzing 725 patients with hepatic abscesses over a 10-year period.

Purpose: Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used as carriers for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). In this process, MWCNTs were coated with mesoporous silica (MWCNT-Silica) for uniform and regular loading of AgNPs on the MWCNTs. In addition, astaxanthin (AST) extract was used as a reducing agent for silver ions to enhance the antioxidant, antibiofilm, and anticancer activities of AgNPs.
